network timeout prevented playing this media. Error 24

  • Vivaldi (1.9.818.50) is unable to play a CBC.ca video "the National", it always gives the error message about a network time out (error24). This happens on Ubuntu16.04, but it works perfectly on Windows7.
This CBC streaming video does work with other browsers (Firefox, opera, chrome) on Ubuntu16.04 although it is always slow to load.
So how can I increase the timeout period for Vivaldi on this platform?

CBC.ca geographical blocked. Can't test any video contents.

You probably don't want to hear this, but; by re-writing Vivaldi Chromium codes & re-compile it.

does work with other browsers (Firefox, opera, chrome) on Ubuntu16.04 although it is always slow to load.

Shouldn't you also fix/tweaks your system network too?

Does videos on other sites also load slow if not timeout?

    Thanks for your suggestions.

    Right - I couldn't do that!

I meant CBC news videos are slow to load on all browsers but other videos from BBC for example are fine even on Vivaldi on Ubuntu 16. So I think that my system network is OK.

    About re-writing & re-compile.
That's the same answer I got when researching same timeout question as you, but for other Chromium based browser.

    About CBC.
    If only from that site & no problem with your network/system, here possibilities;

    • CBC or middle man (like: Content Delivery or ISP) throttle the access.
    • The server where CBC placed the videos are slow. Maybe overload.

  • @dLeon
I do think it's a CBC problem, but as I said it does work on ALL other browsers on Ubuntu 16 platform, and even on Vivaldi on Windows - same device and ISP. Although with Windows that's the 32bit version of Vivaldi. That's why I thought it could be a Vivaldi64 problem.
I'll see what CBC have to say. Thanks again
