How to get bookmark toolbar icons to "update"

I have a Gmail icon on my bookmarks bar, and it always seems to be set on 1. This is the case, even when a Gmail tab is open, and I don't have any unread email. This is annoying, as I often look up to my gmail tab to see if I have a new email. I don't find this behavior in any other browser. Is there a way to set how often Vivaldi will look for these notifications?
EDIT: FWIW, this 1 is still there, after shutting down and then restarting the browser.

Clearing cookies did it, although I'd prefer to avoid doing that in the future, as I do like to not delete my google cookies across browser sessions.
