Smooth Scrolling is Anything but Smooth!
-
Ok, I turned off gestures and rocker gestures, now scrolling works awesome, just as smooth as Safari.
Of course, it defeats the purpose of all the gesture hype, regrading Vivdildi, but I think that's where the problem lays and that's where I would focus! -
It's wierd but i made fresh install of mac os high sierra and vivaldi scrolls much more smoothly.... not perfect but much better !
-
Just reaching out to you all to see if you've noticed any improvements with the recent Vivaldi 1.13 snapshots.
-
Can this be solved somehow? Scrolling in Vivaldi is the worst of all browsers, including Firefox, which after the "Quantum" leap is buttery smooth. And with the touchpad's two finger scrolling, Vivaldi scrolls extremely slow (about 10 times slower than any other browser). What is wrong here?
-
@david-p Are you currently using Vivaldi 1.12 (stable release) or the Vivaldi 1.13 snapshots?
-

Of course, it defeats the purpose of all the gesture hype, regrading Vivdildi, but I think that's where the problem lays and that's where I would focus!I can confirm that by disabling those 2 make scrolling smooth again. Same as it is smooth in Opera.
But why ?It is not CPU spikes. The same with those 2 options activated and without them.
And one noticable thing when I disabled those 2 is much faster pages opening. -
@stagger_lee Could you please go to vivaldi://gpu to check Vivaldi's hardware acceleration status?
On my system, I don't have any scrolling issues with "Allow Gestures" and "Allow Rocker Gestures" enabled. However, on current builds, if I also disable GPU hardware acceleration, the scrolling definitely becomes jerky. Next, if I uncheck "Allow Gestures" and uncheck "Allow Rocker Gestures" and leave hardware acceleration disabled, scrolling is becomes smooth again.
-
Will test it directly now.
Changed to new Duracell batteries, just to exclude weak batteries. It was not that problem.
Should know it better, after smooth scroll is nice say in Opera. -

@stagger_lee Hmmm... Interesting. Thanks very much. Just out of curiosity, do you also have any extensions installed or have you made any other Vivaldi modifications that might be contributing to the janky scrolling?
I can confirm that enabling "Allow Gestures" and "Allow Rocker Gestures" definitely have an effect. I'm just wondering why this was not caught in routine testing, especially since mouse gestures are enabled by default.
Thanks again!
-
Did reset all flags to default, just to be sure all is in original state. Later activated smooth scroll flag.
Some global settings changed, difficult to know now what. But they have nothing to do with it. Extensions: Checker Plus for Gmail, Google Translate, Kaspersky Protection, LastPass: Free Password Manager, uBlock Origin (all active).NVIDIA drivers are not the latest. Cannot have latest, give me BSOD every day.
-
@stagger_lee You had me confused for a second because I was trying to figure out what kind of Mac you had... then I saw that you are running Windows. This is the Mac forum but clearly this is a cross-platform issue.
-
Uf, sorry.
I found it with search function. -
@stagger_lee No problem at all! I passed your tip on to the Vivaldi team to see if this can be confirmed internally. I may still ask you to file a bug report!
-
Please send me an e-mail in that case. I am not hanging here on forum all the time. See you.
-
@oldhickory30 Thank you, thank you, thank you! I've been having this problem for years (on Windows, so it's not only a long-term issue, it's also cross-platform!), tried uninstalling extensions, reinstalling the whole browser, playing with settings, and today I found this topic and your solution turned out to be right.
So why does the team not fix this bug after so long? Why does laptop touch-scrolling have to wait until you stop the movement to figure out you're not using gestures and start the actual scrolling? This is a huge issue - to the extent of making the whole point of using Vivaldi over Opera defunct. -
