Stop interpreting period in address bar as URL/TLD
-
I love lots of parts of Vivaldi, but one thing that really annoys me is that anything I type in the address bar with a period in it is interpreted as a URL instead of defaulting to Google search. I wish that Vivaldi would compare against a list of valid TLDs or something.
For example, one common Google search is a simple calculation:
3.14+210.1
Vivaldi thinks it's a web address and goes to:
http://3.14+210.1/Another common example is when I want to search for info on a particular .exe file:
vivaldi.exe
becomes
http://vivaldi.exe
even though "exe" is not a valid TLD according to IANA.Is there any way to change this behavior? Apologies if this is in the wrong place and thank you!

@paep3nguin Yeah, it's been this way since I can remember, you can circumvent this by using the shortcut of the desired search engine before the search. It's an annoyance but on the other hand only two keyboardstrokes more.
And I would be really surprised if this hadn't been reported dozens of times already.

@Gwen-Dragon Thanks, I'll file a bug report!
-
@laneliswa I turned that off because I like the Chrome-style omnibar. For most people though, I suppose you're right!
-
@luetage You're right, but I'm lazy :). I would have thought it would be reported as well, but I couldn't find any other threads on it, though I might have not used the right keywords.

@Gwen-Dragon said in Stop interpreting period in address bar as URL/TLD:
Please report these two issues separately as bugs.
But it's only one bug (two examples given)...

One workaround for this scenario in ulrbar could be to use the shortcut provided by vivaldi search engine system (even with search box disabled).
Usually using g letter + space + "string to be found/used", should redirect to the right google function.
So, for the two examples, you should use in urlbarg 3.14+210.1
g vivaldi.exewhoops, luetage already said that

@Hadden89 Haha, yeah, that's what I have to do these days I just wish Vivaldi could recognize that something clearly isn't a website and just search for it instead!
-
@mossman Oops, I didn't notice that. Maybe he meant the two examples I gave?
-
@paep3nguin Perhaps. One thing you didn't notice for sure is the Venus Symbol in her signature.
-
@pafflick Ah! I need to remember to use "they" for people on the internet
