Vivaldi crashes everytime on startup
-
Greetings,
Ever since I have updated to version 1.6.689.40 my browser keeps crashing on startup and only works again if I run the installer executable again. Once I close Vivaldi and start it up again then it crashes again with the following problem signature from my machine:

@neduko - what happens with Vivaldi if you refresh your profile?
-
@Ayespy I just tried and couldn't get past Step 3 in the refreshing profile post. It still crashes on startup. I have to do the install again to make it run again.
-
@neduko - There is something on your system preventing the browser from running. Do you run any 3rd party security software?
-
@Ayespy I only run ESET Smart Security which didn't have a problem before the update of Vivaldi.
-
Can I ask if there is a way to get the Vivaldi version before the 23 December update of the HTML 5 video, because that was the last version I had active before this crashing issue. I used Vivaldi on the 9th December 2016 before I went on leave on my Work user profile. When I returned on the 3rd January 2017 and installed the update. The crash issue started after I did the update install.

I have two W7-64 machines with V-64 1.6.689.40. On one the browser worked fine, the other produced the same shutdown right after launch action that you mention. Both machines had the same security software setup (not Eset). Version 1.5 had been running well too, just as in your case.
In my case the problem was indeed that on one machine vivaldi.exe was not blocked by my security software, but it was also not fully "trusted". That was enough to produce the shutdown. I changed that status to trusted and the problem was gone.So in your case, you might want to have a closer look at your Eset settings after all.

@joss I have updated the ESET to exclude vivaldi executable and I still got the error. Thanks for your suggestion
-
This might just be a wild guess - and if I am right this neither fixes the problem - but can this be pinned down to an exclusive problem of either the 32-bit or 64-bit version of vivaldi?
-
@zaibon - It may not be the executable. Your _elf dll is being removed or blocked, it seems.
-
@Ayespy I even excluded the elf.dll file not to be blocked and still failed.

I have same problem = your vivaldi absolutly, totally NOT START with error same as in topic starter post.
refresh profile? = no, silly, vivaldi NOT START.
reinstall? = no, same appcrash in uninstaller too, manually delete folder only
my antivirus bad? = no, developers, i have no antivirus, maybe your work bad?
try another version - 64bit, 32, new snapshot? = no, nothing startwindows 8.1 64 bit
p.s. New Opera developer build angered me,
I tried to try your attempt, and that's what happened. -
@led9: None of the developers or testers (more than 70 of us) are able to replicate your problem.
-
@Ayespy
it saddens, yes
Once I have this problem, let I start at a special version of Vivaldi for the test.
I can go for it, send me such version -
