exiting full-screen youtube HTML5 video sometimes shuts down the browser
-
using the latest version of vivaldi on mint 18.1 when existing youtube full screen videos the browser sometimes just completely shuts down. i thought this was just my old laptop having trouble running the browser, but it happens on my desktop as well. then i load it up again [the browser] i only get the new tab page not the tabs which normally load at start-up
it doesn't happen every time though, not sure what to do

@ultraviolet I've never had this on Mint 18 (KDE so 18.1 not yet available). Which desktop are you using?
Did it work before 18.1 update or did you not try it?
When you say latest Vivaldi - which one, stable or snapshot?Have you checked the pinned thread
https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/12973/video-playback-problems-troubleshooting-and-solutions-on-linux
Also, have you tried changing hardware acceleration?
vivaldi://flags/#disable-accelerated-video-decode -

vivaldi://flags/#disable-accelerated-video-decodethanks for the reply:
im using Cinnamon desktop.
the 'disable accelerated video' flag isn't available in vivaldi, although disabling this would mean i couldn't play 1440p60 / 1080p60 / 720p60 videos
the link you gave is more about playback issues with the codecs, my playback is great.
i think this started about two updates ago to Vivaldi. i would check my graphics drivers, but as i can only use the open-source AMD driver on mint 18 i'm a bit stuck. i don't think its that as Brave / Opera / Chrome / Firefox are all ok.it could be a 18.1 thing, no way to roll that back now though

This did happen once to me, but that represents only a small minority of my YT usage pattern. Furthermore, there has been a few random isolated occasions unrelated to YT at all, when my V SS vanished before my eyes [as i actively used it] &/or sometimes vanished from the background [with all its processes similarly ended] - so that one YT fullscreen closure aberration might not even have been related to YT, but be whatever causes those rare other closures just coincidentally manifesting at that time. My overall V SS experience continues to be very positive.

Proprietary NVidia drivers used in both, not Nouveau -

@ultraviolet
mib correctly beat me to it. I was saving my typing bytes by abbreviating. -
just had this problem when on the vimeo.com site as well.
i've had to switch to another browser as i've just lost all my work and its going to take me ages going through my history -
also had this happen on Netflix as well. but i found opening up a new window and playing the video in it works and doesn't crash the browser 100%
