Incognito Window = All Extensions Disabled

  • Is this intended behavior? If so, why?

It makes incognito windows useless to me. All my security/privacy extensions are effectively removed, along with everything else.

  • Vivaldi Team

This is intended for privacy reasons, if you want to enable extensions in incognito mode you can do so here:
vivaldi://extensions and check the "Allow in incognito" checkbox.

Aha, thanks very much for that. I do now recall seeing that tickbox in the past but didn't make the connection to this latest issue.

FWIW: I don't use incognito/private windows/tabs in browsers to hide things from a spouse or any of that nonsense. I usually use them to insulate one tab/window from the other so I can eg open a tab/window to Google Maps without Google snooping back/forth on tracking cookies in other tabs/windows (Without having to open a completely different browser to do this), or to login to a site/service with more than one set of credentials at the same time without having to open another entire browser.

BTW: any chance Vivaldi will implement incognito tabs instead of just incognito windows? I would rather not have to open a completely new instance of the browser to gain this functionality.

    Thanks again.

I remember this was requested when Incognito Windows were discussed. so I expect it is on the "to do" list. However, since we have Incognito Windows, Open link in Private Window and Open Bookmark in Private window; I guess private tabs in "normal window" would be lower priority than many other bugs/requests.
