Vivaldi not ready for prime time.
-
Well, I just spent the last 10 hours attempting to get Vivaldi to work like I need and it's once again clear to me this browser isn't ready for prime time: 1) Hardware acceleration doesn't work. Did a bunch of research and it appears if you have an Intel/Nvidia combination you're SoL. As a result I can't play any videos (whether Flash or HTML5) which puts a big damper on things. 2) Still buggy. Went into settings to disable search suggestions, but the browser still goes out to a search engine even though that functionality is supposed to be disabled. I don't need the browser thinking for me. I'm a lot smarter than it is. I actually did make it further this time and had high hopes it would work out as I like the browser. But, I don't like fighting with my browser to get it to work. I want to start it up and have it work. Kudos for all the hard work so far. It's looking better, but it's not quite there yet. At least, not for me.

Some people are happy to test betas to help devs finding bugs and add functionality. No program ever is complete and 100% bug free.

Works for me on my Win7 PC with a nVidia GT520, doesn't work for some. It didn't work for me just in a developer build, quickly solved in the next snapshot.

Works for me, search suggestions disabled in address field and no suggestions are searched for. If you want also disable search with the default search engine (I have google as default for example and what I type, if it's not a valid url, will be searched for with google) you can always create a new search engine named "Nothing" and with %s only as URL, but you're too smart so you've probably already solved this by yourself

sounds like https://vivaldi.net/en-US/forum/vivaldi-browser/15509-browser-cant-play-gif-and-sound-files#77432. i believe 32-bit versions of program are the issue.
as for flash, may it rest in peace. though let it do this without fond memories or longing.most websites offer other formats of media, even if they ask you for flash first.

i agree that flash is a plague. anything we depend on for too long is doomed to this fate.
i dont miss snapiness and features. i use vivaldi browser for research. i like fast boot times, as this secondary browser is often closed. in linux i cannot find another major browser that boots nearly as fast. windows, i believe that's true, but I haven't sampled as many browsers. too many features would likely increase boot time. eventually i would switch to qupzilla, or whatever browser looked hot that day. i think (after they bring back the email panel) i would rather see streamlining refinement than bulky flash muscles or too many new features.
