[Suggestion VB-7506] UI improvement. (reverse coloring behavior)
-
I'm seeing it on one additional tab I opened, but not on another one, and haven't yet figured out the pattern (if there is one) to reproduce it.
Well… open this forum index, middle click on a bunch of links to open them in background, all the new tabs will have the [missing] triangle marker, when you focus on one of them the [missing]triangle disappears.
Opera 12 had this feature too - it's simply an indicator of tabs that the user has not viewed yet. So, opening a link in a new tab without navigating to that tab will reproduce the affect. Once a tab has been seen, it becomes fully rectangular again.
Here's a screenshot (if this gets resized, I'll upload it as an attachment instead):

Ahhh…. OK, I haven't been opening many tabs in the background (I'm one of those with no middle button, and don't have time/desire for the software solution you mentioned, but Ctrl+LeftClick works) and didn't realize until now that's what I had done on the one instance I had. And now I understand what you meant above about "not for the same purpose (a gray triangle marks the unseen tabs, now)". At the time, I thought by "unseen" you probably meant "inactive", but now your meaning is obvious. (I think maybe if you had said "unviewed" I might have realized what you meant, and certainly if you had said "not yet viewed".)
The tab bar must be darker, or the tab must be coloured to catch the eye…
I agree 100%, and I think this method would work pretty well to allow keeping the tab colors on all tabs (accomplishing your original goal).Once upon a time, I used Opera skins that not only clearly differentiated active from inactive tabs, but also differentiated viewed from unviewed tabs. Not sure when I got away from the latter and had kind of forgotten about it, but both are nice to have.
Edit:
@Tiamarth: Thanks… ...you posted as I was just about to post my reply to The_Solutor. -

Yes, my english is poor
, and certainly if you had said "not yet viewed".)
And I'm lazy too…
anyway the idea here was to point the idea behind the marker, it's there to remind to something not just "not yet viewed" but to something opened in background that, maybe, you missed to view.
Surely the presence or lacks of middle button makes the difference here, who is used to the middle button tends to open dozens of background tabs, and often forgets to focus some of them

Good idea but only as an option to activate, naturally.
I post an image with not active tabs whiter by 60%.
Ciao, Igor
P.S.: all the favicons at full color.
P.P.S.: hovering a not active tab i think it can increase color by 40%. -

I like that. Definitely along the lines I was thinking of when I suggested "active tab retains full color saturation while inactive tabs get desaturated grayed (darkened) or fogged (lightened) color".
Nice idea keeping the favicons at full intensity. They stand out nicely and sort of accentuate the "fogged" look of the rest of the tab.
I don't know how much is involved in producing that image, but did you experiment with other levels? I'm wondering if it could go even whiter to maybe 70-80%, or does that wash the color out too much. If it doesn't wash out the color too much the contrast with the active tab would be even greater, and the favicons would "pop" even more as well.
Might look a lot cleaner at full size if saved as .PNG

Nice idea keeping the favicons at full intensity.
Yes it's nice, indeed is what I did in my example 5.
Igor's sample, is just the same example with a more accentuated washed out effect.

Igor's sample, is just the same example with a more accentuated washed out effect.and it should be even more "washed out" it must me striking to see even if you blink (not related to Blink at all ). So adding colours (white/black) is in my opinion wrong. It needs some polishing using opacity…

and it should be even more "washed out"
I care about the ideas, then the details belongs to the personal preference.
When the former is good and well implemented, is easy to please each user letting him to decide the details.

Sorry, I think I missed (or possibly just forgot?) the phrase, "…but less saturated bar, like the example 5 above" in my earlier reply to your example 5 post. I was focused more on the phrase, "…the color coding can be very useful to spot the inactive one you are looking for, especially on a crowded tab bar", but I see the reduced saturation in the image now.
Do you think it can go even lighter (whiter) than igorditerni's example?
Did you try going the other way by adding more gray (black)?

I think the best way would be to have a couple of cursors to let user decide how much colour/transparency/whatever should be left on the inactive tabs

Hi
Another idea on this topic, and indication of active tab."Shadow" which is basically gradient on the bottom of all inactive tabs, and on the sides of active tab. I think that in this way is clear which tab is active. Beside that i think looks good, and could attract some new users to Vivaldi browser.
Different scenario, corner tab darker color:
Pros:
-"quicker find tab that you're looking for". Favicon are small and not that easy to spot with a glimpse. Now you'll have not only favicon but also big rectangle color theme of site.
-"easy to spot active tab". In dark theme with color active tab some dark theme sites are difficult to spot among the rest of grey tabs.- "3d like effect" shadow around active tab gives you 3d illusion which looks far more interesting yet still simple.
Cons
-"sometimes hard to spot active tab" In situation when all your open tabs are dark it might be difficult to spot active tab which is indicated by the shadow.Let me know below what you think about it .

it's a great suggestion, I'm supporting it
