Magnet links dont work in this browser. Any fix for this?
-
title says it all. even though utorrent is my default program, clicking magnet links in vivaldi does nothing. the first time i tried to click one, it tried to open it THROUGH vivaldi so i clicked no. now nothing happens at all when i click magnet links. how do you fix this?
-
What the title says is not true. All magnet links work perfectly - kickasstorrents, rutracker, zamunda (the Bulgarian zamunda, not the turkish one), etc. - all of their magnets work like a charm, so check your settings.

I was talking about the settings of your torrent client. If no change, try with BitTorrent. It's by the same developer that makes uTorrent but it's a lot better and it doesn't require any specific settings to make it work with magnet links.
There might be some hidden settings about magnets in the browser but idk how to access them. -
this site is really terrible. its supposed to be for us to get help, but its more of a hindrance than anything. i posted twice, and both posts are still awaiting moderator approval days later. I mean its kind of sad that the very makers of this damn browser cant even help me with something as simple as turning magnet links back on
its ok though. i solved the problem myself. i ended up uninstalling the whole browser and reinstalling it. apparently what happened was when i originally clicked a magnet link, i accidentally said no to opening the url because i thought it was trying to download the torrent file through the browser itself. apparently theres no settings in this browser to even edit how your magnet links are affected, so youre SOL if something like that happens, with no option other than reinstalling. this seems like a pretty bad defect to me that they should seriously fix in a future update.

In my laptop Vivaldi can't opened this site http://www.poweredtemplate.com/ . What problem it can be?
-
If setting things up in your torrent client doesn't help - you can force things.
Vivaldi's strong point is that it doesn't block extensions that don't come from Google Web Store like Google Chrome does. There is an extension called SimpleGet. It adds context menu option allowing you to run any external program with link as a parameter.
You can get it from this site.
You can't install it in Google Chrome, but you can in Vivaldi. Just download CRX file, save it on a disk and drag it to Extensions window in Vivaldi. Vivaldi will ask whether you want to use this etxension at your own risk.
Then set SimpleGet to run your torrent client and send magnet link as a parameter and this should work nicely.

1. Offtopic. You should post it in a proper thread.
2. My Vivaldi [ 1.2.490.43 () (64-bit) ] opens this page without problems, even with Ghostery, uBlock and Privacy Badger running which could affect some sites. It must be a problem with your system or your Vivaldi is damaged so reinstall it, then try newest snapshot as a standalone, then report it in a new thread if it still doesn't work. -

it is a regression. Reported.Summary: regression: magnet links don't work anymore from this snapshot
Key: VB-36485 -
Didn't realize until this post that it was my snapshot build breaking this
Magnet links are a must on my system since my company uses SharePoint, which uses magnet links to hook in to MS Office applications.
I was on snapshot version:
Vivaldi 1.14.1072.3 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Revision 5ca87b87740c632fb522a6d57c1f5527fc43ecf5-Magnet link behavior was restored by reverting to:
Vivaldi 1.13.1008.40 (Stable channel) (64-bit)
Revision dd2895aa58c2274ad3c791ca3ce191734e515549-I am running Windows 7 Enterprise. I have not tested this on my Mac.
Side note: I'm not sure if this is the right place for this info? I'm used to Github where I can subscribe to an issue and/or add additional info. I don't want to submit a duplicate bug report. I work in the software industry so I know about sifting what's actually duplicate issues, and I don't want to add extra work for you guys :).

Hi! It seems 1.14 got pushed to public and this bug wasn't fixed. Magnet links are currently broken for me with the same symptoms as previously stated in the thread.
-
@morphello The bug is not in Vivaldi, but in the underlying Chromium 64 engine. The Chromium developers will be fixing it.
-
can confirm, update 1.14.1077.41 broke magnet links. pasting them manually into the torrent client works so it's a vivaldi/chrome bug
