start.me problem
-
I recently switched from Pale Moon to Vivaldi and have been very satisfied with the results.
However, I'm unable to work around a "start.me" 404 notification page that appears when I open the browser. I used "start.me" with Pale Moon but cancelled the account and received confirmation of that action. And the problem didn't start until I had used the new browser quite a few times. Searches for how to remove the "start.me" default reveal fixes for Chrome and Firefox, but I can't find anything for Vivaldi.
This is more of an irritant than anything else. If I want more than one web page open at a time, I can't get to the second one without encountering the "start.me" notice. And when I close that screen, I'm back to square one.
I haven't seen anything in the settings that would resolve this, and of course "start.me" isn't in the list of programs I can delete from my PC.
Can you suggest a possible fix?

@kentraco
Vivaldi using Chromium engine, if the path exist for chrome, is possible exist also for vivaldi. -
Thanks, but I haven't found a way to implement the instructions for Chrome with Vivaldi.

tried this already? the page also hints on this hidden setting reset
chrome://settings/resetProfileSettings/ -
@iAN-CooG this page exist for vivaldi:
vivaldi://settings/resetProfileSettings (right click -> open link in new tab) -
yes I saw by myself that it exists, but also that it has the common problem of acting differently if typed with chrome: (works) and vivaldi: (undefined setting)
-
You would think that the resetProfileSettings function would solve the problem, but it doesn't. I did the reset and rebooted, and the "start.me" page is still the default when Vivaldi is opened.

and what do you have in settings/startup/homepage? and settings/tabs/new tab page?
-
"vivaldi://startpage" and "start page"
-
@kentraco said in start.me problem:
vivaldi://startpage
vivaldi://startpage = many time it's speed dial
vivaldi://newtab/ = homepage -
Substituting "vivaldi://newtab/" also brings up the "start.me" 404 page.
-
.-. okay after is possible if check this and this he "possible" remove 404 page:
vivaldi://plugins/
vivaldi://extensions/
vivaldi://appcache-internals/if you find start.me , remove it.
At the end if not functionnal, I recommend to save bookmark, remove profile and relaunch vivaldi. -
Thanks for your help. I had already checked all of those and found no evidence of "start.me", so I have no idea what is prompting Vivaldi to look for it.
-
@kentraco Perhaps the simplest check is to fully reset your profile
Backup bookmarks etc as described here
