How to open external links and stay Vivaldi in background window
-
I want to open some different links in one sequence from a newsletter or an Excel spreadsheet without changing the window after each click, because the Vivaldi window always get the focus. The old Vivaldi snapshots (i.g. 1.0.283.8 Developer Build x32) had the behavior to leave Vivaldi in background and the call up program had still the focus. Is there any switch from the command line? Thanks. Windows 7 Pro (x64) - Vivaldi 1.3.519.25 Standalone (x32)

is this helpful?
START /B [program]

so, you probably know the "&" after command starts a child process. right click can open links in new tab, but documents would only be viewed by browser. i would look for extensions. i installed everclip in vivaldi to use evernote. what about:
$wget URL [destination folder] ; [application] [file] ?
original question references windows command line. in most distros you can turn that into a script for at least one program, assign it to a keyboard shortcut. -
@krirat:
Created bug VB-22205 on this issue.
This is not an issue, this is the intended behavior.
You got used to some older versions that had a bug who prevented the correct focusing.
Whatever I understand your point, and I confirmed VB-22205 as a feature request, then is up to the devs to take it in account.

The most common scenario, at least for now, is to click on a link on the email client and to have it opened on the browser (no matter if Vivaldi or another one).
Opera had an integrated email client hence did some things in a not standard way, and vivaldi has not yet one.
As I said I understand your corner case, but don't believe that something that please you is universal.
The default behaviors must be thought thinking to common usage paths, then options to address personal needs are surely welcome.

@The_Solutor It would please me as well. If I am reading an email digest with several links, I want to open those links in my browser (Vivaldi) in the background but continue reviewing the digest in the email program in the foreground. I can't see that this is an uncommon case.

Yes, I would like this option too. I often open several links from emails sequentially and then view the results in the browser. This is possible in Firefox by changing an about:config setting, so I don't think it would be difficult to have the same option in Vivaldi
-
Yes, the same feature request. Of course not as setting, usually I want to bring browser window to top, when I externally open links, but it would be very useful command line parameter.
-
@the_solutor Firefox has had this as an option for some time; I have seen requests both here and at Opera for it to be implemented. Personally I'd only use it in the Android version as there's nothing on my laptop that I'd be opening links (multiple at one time) from, but I don't use it (that is, the laptop) for work.
