V 6.6 | Missing Mute Tab 🔇

I can confirm this. Yesterday everything worked fine. Today I updated to version 6.6.3271.45 on Windows 11 and I'm getting the same bugs you're seeing. The first Twitch tab opened works perfectly fine, every other tab has sound or maybe not, it's a gamble.
I think if you mute the first tab, then open a second tab, the second tab is just permanently muted, it will never produce any sound ever. Unmuting the first tab, closing the second tab, reopening it brings will display a "Click to unmute" option for about two seconds. If you don't click it, back to being forever muted. If you click it there will be sound but it's still linked to the first tab's sound. It's a mess and pretty much unusable.
However, this happening after the upgrade might be a red herring. Other browsers seem to be partly affected? It could be Twitch's fault? More experiments required.

@Zalex108 I have vision issues. I'm not sure I could trust myself to edit the registry properly anymore. I'll have to see if I am able. If I can, I'll post back.

Since despite not appearing on the Shortcut, would be triggered by the registry, but just in case added since this has to be done manually.

I guess you didn't modified those Registry entries and add it

Okay, I think I'm seeing two separate issues here:

If you open a stream with a new tab in the background it might (not sure what exactly triggers this) display this "Click to unmute" prompt for two seconds. Because the tab is in the background you can't see it and can't click it and sound in that tab is forever gone. Can be avoided opening tabs in the foreground only and being ready to speedclick that. I have see this thing in other browsers, too, but that means nothing because all of those browsers are Chromium based.
Opening a second Twitch tab will not give you separate volume controls on it. By which I means the speaker icon on the tab in the tab bar. Only the first tab will have it and clicking it will mute all Twitch tabs. This one seems to be a exclusive issue with Twitch on Vivaldi introduced in the latest 6.6 update. YouTube in Vivaldi does not have this issue. Twitch in Edge does not have this issue (but might be based on an older Chromium build).

I always Open in a New Tab. I tried opening in a background tab, was not able to open the tab in time to see the prompt you described. But, when I did go to close that second muted tab, there was half a second of sound from it. Weird!

OK It USED to give separate volume controls/speaker icon in each tab, until a few days ago for me. So you're saying it was introduced in the latest 6.6 update. OK. What can I do from here? Would submitting a support ticket to report it help? Please let me know. Yes I tested in Chrome and Firefox, but not Edge.

Can I go back to the previous version? I see 6.5 there but doubting I can install that without removing something.

I can confirm it's an issue with the current version:
I uninstalled Vivaldi, went to the download archive https://vivaldi.com/download/archive/?platform=win and downloaded the previous version 6.5.3206.63 and everything is fine again. I hope we'll get a fixed version soon, because running an outdated browser version is usually a bad idea. Do not reccomend.

@SpeedingTurtle Oh Yes I was going to try this. OK I'll wait for an update. I'll have to use another browser in the meantime for the streaming purposes. Thanks for checking that.

Also another problem with this issue is, when I have just one Twitch tab open, and I open another browsing tab to do something, I want the stream to keep on playing (that's normal) but as soon as the Twitch tab is no longer the focus, it mutes. Not normal.

Yeah it appears to be the recent update. I will need to sit tight and wait for a fix. Thanks for your ideas!

@lisating i test and found that 6.5.3206.63 (Stable channel) （64 bit） is ok,and is the last available version. but if you choice downgrade maybe you will lose all the cookies and need to login again

@lisating The audio icon only shows if the tab actually has audio playing. Are you sure these tabs are actually playing back sound? Looks like Twich tabs open with their video player in mute state so no audio will be coming from them.

I am also on Windows 10 (22H2) and cannot reproduce this problem.

I tried:

Opening three live Twitch streams
Pinned the tabs like you apparently do
Making sure they were all started and audio was playing
Tried to mute the tabs one by one

=> Only the tab I muted was actually muted, as expected.

Maybe I just don't understand the problem - I never use Twitch myself as it's full of kids screaming into microphones

To clarify, I'm having the problem on Windows 11 Version 23H2 (Build 22631.3007), so it definitely affects both Windows 10 and 11.
Also, I'm using one non-standard flag, that I did not try disabling: --disable-features=HardwareMediaKeyHandling
I'll try it soon.

Same here

In this case all tabs play audio, but only first tab has audio/speaker icon. In this situation I can mute only this tab with icon, but this action mutes all twitch tabs

@Pathduck hello, thanks replying first. i think it is not because the system version.

1.it is worked in 6.5.3206.63 (Stable channel) （64 bit）with same system version.
2. the chrome is ok with the same system version

let me show how to reproduce this issue.

1.upgrade to the latest vivaldi version on windows platform(for now it is 6.6.3271.45)

2.open a youtube or a twich live with middle mouse(actually the Mouse-Wheel).
important：use the Mouse-Wheel to open a link ,and do not use left mouse button.

so you will get a behavior, a new tab will be opened in background(because you use the Mouse-Wheel), then switch to that tab, you will find that tab is muted always
