Second start of Vivaldi does not use user-defined Start Page
-
@dustpuppy This is a known issue (
VB-46990
), which hasn't been resolved yet, unfortunately. Launching the browser multiple times is a rather unusual method of opening new windows. There are other methods which you can try instead. Hope it helps. -
@norrisg Yes, launching a new window on a virtual desktop by opening the program shortcut makes more sense. Of course, everything depends on one's workflow. For me, it's far more convenient and logical to use keyboard shortcuts (
[CTRL]
+[N]
and[CTRL]
+[SHIFT]
+[N]
) instead of looking for a desktop shortcut, as I don't use virtual desktops.
Perhaps there's another workaround that could suit you. If Vivaldi is set as the default browser on your computer, could you create a shortcut to your start page website (instead of a shortcut to the browser itself), and use that to launch new windows? -
I reported this issue almost exactly two years ago (VB-52851), it would be nice to see if this could get fixed at some point.

@paludis Was duplicate of older bug
VB-46990 "Second start of Vivaldi does not use user-defined Startpage" - Confirmed, no progress.
I updated tracker for 5.3.2643 -
@pafflick said in Second start of Vivaldi does not use user-defined Start Page:
Launching the browser multiple times is a rather unusual method of opening new windows.
Given that re-launching the process is the only viable way I'm aware of to directly launch a specific profile, I'm inclined to disagree.
This bug isn't a showstopper by any means, but it's certainly annoying when the last session just so happened to have a tab playing audio.

@timelmer
Hi, I create a new Vivaldi desktop shortcut and add--profile-directory="Profile 1"
after vivaldi.exe.
This open the first profile.Here is an example with a different switch:
I use it to open a clean test profile.
Cheers, mib
