Youtube trialling new ad-blocking

For what it's worth, I got the Youtube warning - then just reloaded the tab. Video played!!

Edge is based on Blink engine, just like Vivaldi.
As for me, I'm not seeing the Ad blocker message on Vivaldi with uBlock Origin enabled.Blink is part of Chromium, and all I've been seeing for months is how Google was pushing this change to Chromium re: adblockers.
@Catweazle said in Youtube trialling new ad-blocking:
@somnomania, nothing to do with Chromium, YT simply block adblockers, same issue with Vivaldi adblocker or with other using uBO, even front-ends, like Piped, CloudTube and others can't reproduce most YT videos since some weeks. FreeTube, a desktop client also don't work. watch videos in Andisearch only works for some videos. Until now, only the SMPlayer on Desktop still works as it should.
Google since time hate adblockers and now imposes a fairly aggressive policy of disabling them on YT, to promote YT Premium. Either you pay, or it hammers you with ads.
Time to look for alternatives
Alternatives would be lovely, but I highly doubt most of the channels I watch on YT are also there. Newer sites seem like a good fit for people who just want random content to watch, not big names who have years of content uploaded. At least I don't have the issue with YT yet.

Do you use RSS feeds for those channels?
It would be good to know if those who see ads also see them through feeds? (in Vivaldi feeds or Feedbro, for example)

I don't, no. I go through phases of actually watching new content, and I tend to just stick with one channel for several days while I catch up.
-
I recommend you the extension Feedbro to see channels or playlists of YT:

@somnomania, you can import these with the IMDB extension to Odysee

That sounds needlessly complicated, but I can look into it if the adblock thing ends up too much of a pain, I guess. But I'm betting that won't work with live feeds on YT, which are the main content my mom watches (and she's had the adblocker message, while I haven't yet).
-
it's arrived in brazil too, jeez youtube...
-
@jorgefilho, until now no more of this crap using Adblock Plus
-
@Catweazle thanks for the tip.

I'm just trying this, and everything from vivaldi's ad blocking, to ublock origin and adnauseum trigger youtube's new video blocking.
-
@CalebM
I wasn't either but I seen an update for Vavaldi and immediately after started getting pop ups on YT and now i'm blocked totally unless I buy premium, allow ads, or find another blocker. Whatever you do don't update. I restarted the browser yesterday and I quit getting the pop up but today I accidentally closed my YT tab and now I'm getting blocked again and another restart didn't fix it. -
I have gotten a couple pop-up windows on YouTube recently telling me that ad-blockers are not permitted, but so far, nothing I have tried to access has been blocked. All I have to do is to clear the window and continue what I was doing. I don't know why browsers even allow sites to know that their ads are being blocked. If the browser blocks the ad on a person's local computer, how does the site know?

I've had this happen as well. Using uBlock Origin. Just a box saying youtube doesn't allow using an adblocker with a couple of options at the bottom, can't recall what they were, and an x button top right. Click the x and continue on.
Annoying, but doesn't break anything... yet.

Same here.

@barbudo2005 I have no feeds at the moment.
-
The point is to know if for those channels and playlists that you check every day, watching them through feeds is a solution to the problem?
Or will YT simply discern that you are not watching them through its page and block them.
-
For the moment I have managed to block these ads and not see these ugly popups again.
I have used the Vivaldi blocker again with the lists belowm using the JShelter and Clickbait Remover for YouTube extension, deleting cache and Serviceworkers - until now all cleanAdblocker

@smb11 i have recieved a notifcation on youtube the 3 strike thing , but then after that gone to my gmail with a message from adblocker them selves saying they are working in this , had to stop using adblocker in you tube for now , but adblocker is aware of this , just hope that Vivaldi staff can help to get this done faster
