Youtube trialling new ad-blocking
-
If you improve your youtube experience, part of that is opting in and out of adverts.
https://www.mrfdev.com/enhancer-for-youtube
I have been using extensions like this since before YT had adverts, and never noticed when they started using adverts. -
I found the problem with the Vivaldi blocker, the culprit was a list of uBO at the end of the list of adblock sources that was activated.
By unchecking it i had no longer ads or threatening pop ups on YT.The list that caused this for unknown reasons was this one

@Catweazle
Hi, this is not a default list, isn't it?
I use only one list, except the Vivaldi friends list and have no blocking on YT or other very restrictive pages like spiegel.de or bild.de, and no ad's.https://github.com/StUser4pda/filtrite/releases/latest/download/bromite-4pda.txt
-
@mib3berlin, no, I added it in the past and it worked very well, until the last update. Because of this, i don't thought that an uBO filter can cause this issue.

@Hadden89 Thanks, looks like one of the lists did the job (not sure which one as I added all 3 of them).
-
@imag0r on vivaldi blocker or uBO?
-
@DMW1989 This honestly concerns me as they are already doing experiments to compel users to disable ad-blockers or use YouTube Premium. It is likely that these YouTube pop-ups will be unavoidable in the future as Google is an advertising company and can maintain control of its own service, YouTube. The only solution I guess to block ads in the future is to just get Premium. For users who don't or are unable to pay for that, I'm on the same boat too.

After disabling the build-in Vivaldi ad & tracker blocker and installing the uBlock Origin extension every youtube video throws the "Ad blockers violate YouTube's Terms of Service" error. Yet on MS Edge with uBlock Origin enabled the youtube works fine.
This makes the Vivaldi browser useless. Has anyone encountered this problem before?

@markbara
Hi, I have no issues with Vivaldi ad blocker using only this list:https://github.com/StUser4pda/filtrite/releases/latest/download/bromite-4pda.txt
There are several threads about, check this:
https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/91036/youtube-blocking-vivaldi-viewers
Try to disable all other extensions and make sure you are up to date with uBlock, if you want to use it.
Cheers, mib

@markbara It's not Vivaldi's fault, Youtube is doing this.
See

@TbGbe "It's not Vivaldi's fault, Youtube is doing this"
then why on Edge browser everything is working fine? -
@mib3berlin Thanks for the fast reply, but none of your advice have worked. I have enabled only your bromite-4pda.txt list in build-it Vivaldi blocker and disabled the uBlock Origin:
yet the youtube still throws the "Ad blockers violate YouTube's Terms of Service".Also my uBlock Origin is up to date (as of today).
But on the MS Edge youtube works fine on the same account! On MS Edge with enabled uBlock Origin I have on errors and no ads on youtube.

@markbara
Do you use the same extensions on Edge and Vivaldi?
Did you disabled the Vivaldi ad blocker using uBlock?
Please check the other threads, Vivaldi work for me with this list but Youtube block not all users in all Countries.
They have not even start to force this. -
@mib3berlin said in on Vivaldi youtube is unusable:
@markbara
Do you use the same extensions on Edge and Vivaldi?
YES, even the same versions number
Did you disabled the Vivaldi ad blocker using uBlock?
YES, tried all the combinations
Please check the other threads, Vivaldi work for me with this list but Youtube block not all users in all Countries.
I read the other threads on community page that dealt with my problem before starting this thread. None of the advice from those threads fixed my problem.
They have not even start to force this.
this statement is not true
evidently they have already started -
@markbara
OK, then I have no idea.
With force I meant block your account for 24H or something.
I don´t read there terms and conditions changes lately. -
@markbara Not sure if it would help, but you could try making Vivaldi report itself as Edge.
Go to
vivaldi://settings/network/
and set theReport Browser Brand
dropdown toMicrosoft Edge
and then restart the browser before trying YouTube again. -
@markbara said in on Vivaldi youtube is unusable:
Has anyone encountered this problem before?
Yes, almost everyday this problem gets reported.
And it's always the same, update the lists and follow the instructions.
