Visiting my.nextdns.io causing Vivaldi for Android to Crash
-
@mib2berlin I replied to my report with a screen recording of the issue. Can you please add it to the report. I'm hoping that will help the devs confirm it.
-
@mackid1993
The video is automatically added to the report, all fine. -
@mib2berlin Great thanks. Hopefully the visual will help.

@mib2berlin Another observation. When the crashes happen my IP address is temporarily blocked from Vivaldi.net and I get ERR CONNECTION REFUSED when trying to go through forums or any Vivaldi.net service. This also appears in the sync menu.
I believe this bug has something to do with the sync mechanism.
-
@mackid1993
Hm, this make even more complicated, network errors can have many reasons.
In rare cases sync cant connect, I check the Vivaldi status page.
If the status is OK I log out/in to sync but mostly I ignore it, after a few minutes sync start working automatically.
On mobile I disable WiFi and use my mobile network to check if something is wrong in my LAN, for example.
No idea how anybody could reproduce this. -
@mib2berlin I'm telling you when the crashes do occur I get blacklisted for a few minutes from Vivaldi services. This should be added to the bug report. There is some issue with sync on Android 13 +. This issue only starts when I enable sync. To ensure it wasn't my sync data I:
-
reset sync remote data from my laptop (main computer)
-
deleted my vivaldi profile from my laptop and desktop
-
reset the vivaldi app on my phone (cleared the data)
-
set sync up fresh on my laptop with a new encryption key
-
reconfigured all of my vivaldi settings from scratch on my laptop
-
signed in and reconfigured my other devices, and set any settings that sync doesn't copy
The issue still occurs. I also completely reset my phone and downgraded my Pixel 6 Pro from Android 14 Beta 5.1 to Android 13 stable and the issue still occurs.

I know you put a lot of work to get this working but now you can only wait for a developer can reproduce it.
As I mention before there are Pixel only bugs nobody have except Pixel user.
A developer already test this on a Android 13 device but could not reproduce it.
I know the team have Pixel devices to test this, you have to wait. -
@mib2berlin Great. I have a Pixel device so hopefully they can reproduce it. Please let me know if they know of a way to get a dump file off my phone or sent in to them. I know there is a chrome://crashes page but I'm not sure how to get the logs from there to the devs.

@mackid1993
Interessting, I will ask in the chat tomorrow if you can use this in Vivaldi instead sending reports to Google. -
@mib2berlin Thanks!!
-
I spoke with someone else on another community running Android 13, they couldn't reproduce it but they were on a Samsung device and I'm using a Pixel 6 Pro. I'm hoping there is a way I can send in a crash report.

@mackid1993
I have a tool ADB/Fast boot for my Xiaomi device, it include a file explorer were you can explore the complete root file system without rooting the device.
I try to find the location of Vivaldi but give up after 20 minutes or so.
ADB/Fast boot tool is available for many devices, maybe there is one for Pixel too.
If Vivaldi create crash logs one maybe able to find them.
Chrome://crashes show one older crash log but I was not able to find it. -
@mib2berlin So the dmp files should be inside /data/data/com.vivaldi.browser/cache/Crash Reports/ but the only way to access them is either with a debuggable apk or root enabled. If the devs want to provide me with a debuggable apk I'd be happy to reproduce and do an adb pull command to grab the dmp files.

@mackid1993
I can reach /data but the folder is empty.
Anyway, it´s getting late here, I ask in the developer chat tomorrow. -
I can do the same thing, it's because the folder won't display without root permissions. Thanks. Have a good night.

I'm wondering if this could be an extension on my desktop Vivaldi syncing over to my Android Vivaldi somehow and causing this issue?
Edit: I disabled extension sync and deleted the remote data and reset Vivaldi on Android. Same issue.

@mackid1993
HI again, a developer answer:Crashlogs on Android are automatically collected through Google Play Services (if available on your device, and you haven’t opted-out).
I find some descriptions but cant get it to work.
-
@mib2berlin Do I opt in within Vivaldi or in the phones settings?
-
@mackid1993
As far as I understand you need an account on the Google Play Console.
I start to setup an account but as last step they ask for 25$, haha.
This is for developer want to create Android apps, I stop at this point.
It is maybe easier to root your device, I look into for my device but I need to reset my device and this is a bit to n´much for me at the moment.https://play.google.com/console/u/0/signup
I guess you wait at least 14 days if a developer or tester check your bug report.
-
Thanks. I'll just wait for a developer.
