The pros and cons of using Bing Chat?
-
AGAIN anything to do with Bing should be avoided.
-
@LocutusOfBorg Why? Bing Chat is nice toy, good to train a dumb AI with bad questions and information.
OK, if you mean the search engine, yes, it tracks too much.
-
For AI assistant I prefer Andisearch, for me the best thing that has come out in this field. I think Vivaldi could easily put it on the default list, its devs have a very similar privacy concept to Vivaldi's. Relevant results from trusted sources, great as PWA, also in mobile.
We don't store any cookies.
We block Google's FLoC (Federated Learning of Cohorts) tracking technology from this app.
We don't log or store your IP address. It's used to lookup your approximate location (nearest town) for location searches only, then discarded. It is never passed to third-parties.
We only use your GPS or detailed location for searches with your express permission, and then only to approximate the area. Your GPS location details are not stored or passed to any third-parties.
Searches are anonymous and private to you. We don't log searches.
We only use analytics within our service to improve it for our users.
We block referrers on external links and use "nofollow noopener noreferrer" to protect you.
We do not share any customer data with any third parties.
We collect only the data needed to provide the service.
We don't use any off-site or third-party user tracking. There is no ad tracking such as Facebook's or analytics platforms like Google Analytics.
No advertising display or advertising tracking.
We use randomized proxies to retrieve content for preview and reader mode.
We use https encryption everywhere including for external links wherever available.
We proxy images and try to strip third-party cookies from any reader content as much as possible.
We display embedded videos and content for our customer's convenience (so you can play a YouTube video in chat), but they are in a sandbox to help protect you, and restricted to only major reputable web services (like YouTube or Spotify). An embedded video might have cookies outside of our control.
Earning trust
We know we have to earn our customers' trust through our actions. Our mission is to protect privacy, and we're trying to do it in a practical and useful way that's accessible to as many people as possible.
While we're in early test stages (alpha and beta) our privacy technology and systems will be evolving, and we expect to make changes and try different things, based on the principles here. We're only a small team, but we are committed to our mission. We're actively seeking feedback from our community about doing privacy right. We support the principles of GDPR, and before we move out of prototype stage and release commercially, we will implement a fully GDPR-compliant privacy policy.

@Catweazle yes, https://andisearch.com seems to do well on tech-related questions, but still a bit short on details even with the "complex question answering" setting not disabled

but i am not skipping on ai. the benefits are just too great.
The evils far far far far far outweigh any benefit.

Thanks.

@catalinachirita, is still in beta and in heavy developement. It's a lot of works for only 2 devs. Anyway it's still one of the best AI app, until now I found anything I want with it.
-
@Catweazle Yes, I agree as well - after using it for a few months now daily, and after trying the status of other chatbots daily.
It is my understanding that the AI is in front of the search engine, but I may be wrong, or things evolved and are evolving on MS side .. perhaps daily -
@catalinachirita, I think that combining AI with a search engine is one of the most practical uses and for this reason the other search engines are also incorporating it little by little. Andi was the first to do it, long before the others. There are others, such as You.com, which is perhaps the most complete of all. Although it doesn't end up convincing me, it is also a valid option, much better than what Bing or Google offers.
What attracts me to use Andi is on the first line, apart from the good results, the excellent privacy, the ethics of the creators, very focused on the suggestions of the users and their kindness that they show in their support that they offer on their Discord server.
Pure ChatBots for me are meaningless as such, although they can be useful in certain fields, but oriented through a fixed knowledge base, their answers, not finding them in this base (ChatGPT's is from 3 years ago), are unreliable and sometimes outdated, since in this case they make it up, resulting in absurd answers.

I agree, again. Also my searches are in the Precise mode on bing. I disliked Google, always. And i dislike the search in general. Most times I use it only for technical things. Bing is however still sending old links. Am not sure where it is fetching the results from - I suspect from cached high speed databases that are in front of its regular high speed cached databases.
Also it's not able to clarify with yes or no technical things, even simple ones. I normally ask things about AWS, which is something it was trained on. I don't know if there is a word I can use to make bing correct its response. If I say "correct your answer, revise" it sometimes does.
But it still goes weird from time to time. But the other bits are out of control, not their mistake. Other mistakes have been made..
l ll check you.com today, thank you.
Did you find solution for schedulung beeping in browser? I still very much need it, so I spend time on content, not on browser issues, ugh..
-
@catalinachirita, You.com is a valid option, for more tecnically searches you can try also https://www.phind.com, it's specially for devs.
Vivaldi has a Pomodoro Timer with alarm in it's clock
-
I checked phind.com - it's late in my timezone and am not a programmer yet, but i like the way it thinks, thank you sooo much!!
I'm not that keen to figure a solution on the beeps. I study for something - on a stressed background, and this is complex and huge - both in the extreme. 2 min beeps while i study will make me more aware of time passing in 2 min chunks, so i keep pace during exam.
I checked the clock/ timer in Vivaldi as you suggested btw - i checked metronomes too, task scheduler, i can't remember why each one is not working exactly - i think the biggest problem is that for the metronomes 2 min is too long, for Vivaldi extension too short.
I wish i can find a simple fast solution here..
Am very happy btw i can sync Vivaldi between Win11 and Android pretty fast - i watch training video and take small notes, and i which between laptop and phone a lot and pretty fast .. i was on firefox happy-ish before - now on vivaldi for few days really because i like the sync, the more customizable workspaces, i didn't make up my mind yet, but i feel it helps (me) study better
And i listen to trainings on videos and to some background frequencies in parallel and Vivaldi handles the minimization of those windows so i can browse too at same time without loosing both sounds - that's why am here, very frankly
Nice to hear from you btw

After many years of trying search engines and supposed research tools I found the old Bing gave me much more relevant answers than goofle.
However the new AI based Bing seems nothing more than a web scraper giving horrendous results (some faulty, others dated, you get the picture). If I need goofle I use Startpage altho it gives goofle results which I've found less than adequate.
Since I have and use an MS account it is difficult to give it up, moreso than goofle.
There are many Search Engines to choose from but few good ones at or near the top of the pyramid.

There are many Search Engines to choose from but few good ones at or near the top of the pyramid
With search engines and chat AIs, I have found that no one search engine or chat is best for every search or prompt. With the chats there are some prompts where all or most get it wrong.
Earlier today I ran a 3x3 simultaneous equation (also asking them to show the solution steps) through various chats
ChatGPT, Claude, Bing, Bard, Perplexity and Phind,
Only Phind got the correct answer. Ironically, Phind used Microsoft Math Solver. I also tried Math Solver directly and it got it right.
Yet Microsoft Bing itself couldn't get it right! (I sent them feedback.)
I also retried Perplexity using its Copilot mode. It still got it wrong, even though it showed that it referenced Wolfram Alpha. I then tried Wolfram Alpha directly and it got it right as you would expect. Though you need to have a pro subscription to see the steps.
However, sometimes you learn something even when the AI gets it wrong. That also happened to me yesterday. I asked Perplexity to explain why a particular matrix was linearly dependent after I had incorrectly thought it wasn't.
Perplexity went through the steps and correctly concluded that it was linearly dependent, but one of its steps was wrong. But it provided enough explanation for me to correct it and see why I myself had been wrong!

It feels good to learn from an AI’s mistakes, doesn’t it?

My main search engine is Andisearch, it was the first search engine with AI, long before the others. I like it a lot, because of it's great privacy measures, direct answers and relevant results from trustworth sources, own reader mode, summarize, watching YT Videos sandboxed in the search results, free, no ads, no trackers, no logs, no SEO crap, anonymous, aternative web searches with other privacy search engines if it don't find results (rare). PP very similar to the one of Vivaldi.
