Tab with no name unable to be closed
-
Not sure if this is a bug, or a virus.
This tab refuses to close itself. There's no name, no X button. If I right click it, and look in the context menu. There's no close tab button.
If I close Vivaldi. and open it back up again, it's back.
I just can't seem to get rid of it.And this is with my all my extensions disabled. I thought maybe it could have been an extension that was doing something.
But it's still there.
And I have also noticed during just regular browsing, of such tabs appearing, for a second. And then disappearing.
At first I thought maybe it was some background worker, loading something.
But now that one of them is stuck open, and being unable to be closed. It actually looks like ads.
I'm hoping maybe someone here can shed some light on the issue, who have potentially experienced this themselves. And would be able to let me know how they fixed it.

@Norway174 The tab is pinned - that is why the option "Unpin Tab" is in the context menu.

@Norway174 Most likely this tab appeared when you installed some shady extension. I am not sure if extensions are allowed to pin tabs, but most likely that's what happened.
Extensions often ask for a lot of permissions and it's up to the user to check these permissions before installing an extension.
The most shady and often malicious extensions are the ones who give "offers" or "coupons" to save money on various sites. This looks like one of those.
You should avoid installing such extensions, the money "saved" is not worth it.

@Norway174 The tab is pinned. Pinning a tab in Vivaldi prevents it from being closed unless you unpin it using the context menu, or go in Settings to Tabs/tab features/pinned tabs and change the setting to "close as other tabs."
{Why? Some of the same people who invented tab pinning - as a way to prevent tabs from being accidentally closed - are Vivaldi developers. Other browser companies stole tab pinning, but neglected to include its original primary purpose.)

Yep! It was pinned.
I never knew it had such a feature. Pretty cool, now that I know of it.
I didn't think I had any shady extensions installed. Pretty much just been sticking with the larger, fairly well known ones.
Thank you everyone for the information!
I don't suppose there's a log anywhere of which extensions would be opening pinned tabs?

You should avoid installing such extensions, the money "saved" is not worth it.The only extension I have that does this, is PayPal Honey.
Which I might as well just remove anyway, it's never found me any coupons. And always tries to push on me to get their premium membership, to earn cash back.

PayPal Honey
heehee, i don't know that, so i might be impugning it unfairly, but at face value the name alone gives me the icks, ie, it just sounds dodgy!
good luck.

@ybjrepnfr Honey is an app that automatically searches the web to find discounts and coupons for anything you go online to buy. In the process, it tracks and reports on all of your interests and shopping habits.
