Text in input fields sometimes enters backwards
-
@imsujith Can’t reproduce, but can reproduce every time I follow steps provided earlier. You have to come up with a set of clear (list everything! you do) and preferably short steps to reproduce this issue from a clean profile. Post them here, then someone can try to reproduce and it will hopefully be fixed.

4 years later and this still has not been fixed!
There once was a day some/all Chromium-based browsers suffered from this very annoying bug, but that has long been fixed.
Following the steps mentioned above makes this very annoying bug very reproducable. for the dim, here they are clearly numbered in order of execution.
- find a text box in (almost?) any webpage
- type some arbitrary text
- click and drag to select that text from the end to the beginning AND while still holding the mouse button down, move the mouse OUT of the vivaldi window
- release the mouse button while OUTSIDE the vivaldi window. Do NOT click or do anything else except step 5
- start typing to replace the selected text
This is 100% reproducable and more than 4 years later still not fixed. And it's F&&^G annoying.
This is the one thing I hate about Vivaldi: their bugtracker is closed and there is no way to know where (or even if) this lands anywhere.

@srcpu42n Could be a new bug with similar effects. Sadly the tracker is closed but knowing the URLs where it happens, which mouse button is involved, the exact vivaldi version and a video of the issue would help a lot the testers. If you know the VB just ask here for the status.

I don't believe its a new bug, I believe it has never been fixed. But whatever. Theres been reports throughout these 4 years. So probably any version since 4 years. In particular, I am on:
Vivaldi 5.2.2623.48 (Stable channel) stable (64-bit) Revision 80d94afbd301a973f33b94e8c76a22a33ed078c7 OS Linux JavaScript V8 10.0.139.17 User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/100.0.4896.162 Safari/537.36 Command Line /usr/bin/vivaldi-stable --enable-crashpad --flag-switches-begin --flag-switches-end --save-page-as-mhtml Executable Path /opt/vivaldi/vivaldi
The steps have been clearly given and whatever else you ask, the answers are given in at least half a dozen other posts including my own.
If a dev comes in here and replies that he will attempt to fix the issue in the next Vivaldi update, if only he had a video demonstrating the bug, then I will make a video. Until then, 5 simple steps will have to suffice.

VB-48283 "Text shown in reverse order after drag&drop to Vivaldi UI" - confirmed, updated for last 5.3 Snapshot & 5.2 Stable.
Same issue on Chromium 101.0.4951.67 & 104.0.5061.0.
A Chromium issue! Has to be fixed by Chrome Devs.

Just report to Chromium devs to fix it at https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/list.

That's interesting. I was aware of the bugs on Chromium (its been mentioned before). I assumed that was fixed (wasnt there a post that those were closed or have they reopened?). Also, I can no longer reproduce it on recent Chromium builds, currently version 101.0.4951.64 which is mentioned specifically as being affected.

@srcpu42n
Yep, these are the steps to recreate for me. I switched to Edge and this issue has not appeared. -
So i can reproduce this bug in Fedora 38 and Vivaldi 6.0.2979.22 and there is no fixes to this day? Interesting.
-
@Sigmanor have you tested on guest profile or a new copy of vivaldi? It happens there too? Do you have extensions, especially the ones which manipulate the text?
The original chromium bug is fixed, so I guess the cause is another. -
-
@Sigmanor then do a new report as you can still replicate that easily.

Issue is still present till this day. I have tested Manjaro, openSuse (Leap an Tumbleweed) and Steam Deck. All are running KDE Plasma. Present with a fresh install as well as a synced profile
The issue isn't present in macos or windows builds. Also noticed that it's working well in Brave, so it shouldn't be a Chromium issue.
It's really heartbreaking to face this dumb issue, and to see it hasn't been resolved yet. And combined with the fact that the native adblock is not working with youtube ads all that well, and the missing "element picker" for custom rules, I just can't stay using Vivaldi any more. I'll keep an eye on it for now. Hope this is resolved soon
