Feature Request: Office-like hover menu for highlighted text
-
Highlighting content in any of the various MS Office products brings up that convenient formatting menu, something that those of us who do a lot of editing (even just from time to time) makes our work more efficient. I would like to see a feature in Vivaldi that would provide a variety of search and copy features including: [ol] [li]Search Default search engine in same tab[/li] [li]Search Default search engine in new tab[/li] [li]Search with a list of search engines including Wikipedia and others[/li] [li]Copy to clipboard (like CTRL+C)[/li] [li]Search entire document for that word or phrase[/li] [li]Search entire page but only highlight (and open a small pane below so that users can click each to view)[/li] [/ol] Maybe others could expand on this if they agree that this would be a welcomed addition. It certainly would be unique that would just further ensure Vivaldi is in a league all its own. Slightly off-topic, I have to say that the 1.3.501.6 snapshot is outstanding.

[ol]
- Search Default search engine in same tab might be useful
- Search Default search engine in new tab is already the default behaviour
- Search with a list of search engines including Wikipedia and others is a frequent request
- Copy to clipboard (like CTRL+C) is already there
- Search entire document for that word or phrase (What's a document in a browser?)
- Search entire page would be useful with Ctrl F instead of the current workaround of Ctrl C, Ctrl F, Ctrl V. The found instances are highlighted in the scrollbar for ease of locating them.
[/ol]
I have previously suggested that the Search Engine Manager in Settings should have a checkbox to include on context menu, then we could avoid a long submenu of search engines that might be rarely used. I currently have eight search engines on my context menu in Opera, including "Find in Page" Wikipedia (Encyclopedia), YouTube, Google (default), and the Pali Text Society dictionary. The three others are rarely used.

Unfortunately, I find this response from such an esteemed (platinum) member of this illustrious forum, to have likely missed the larger point that I had attempted to make regarding efficiency and convenience.
Highlighting text in a document (aka a web page….logical synonym, no?) and having the ability to perform a number of common tasks and functions without taking one's hand off the mouse, and even more importantly, only having the move a centimeter to do so,is efficient. The fact that there may be be a different way to perform one or more of the specific suggestions I offered does not in any way negate the value of having a more efficient (convenient) way to access that capability. There is nothing wrong with two or more ways to reach the same tool.
The single best anecdote to the success of this type of highlighted-text shortcut menu has been demonstrated in MS Office since originally introduced in 2007.

Shouting to make a point by using large text is unnecessary. It does not make the message any clearer.
I don't think I missed anything.
1. I agreed with
2. Is already the default
3. I also acknowledged as a frequent request, that will no doubt get added in due course
4. Already exists
5. I do not understand how that differed from 6
6. How does this differ from what's already available in the scrollbar? -
Raid6 requested:
Search with a list of search engines including Wikipedia and others
Until that's built in you can always install an extension like Context Menu Search , there are other choices but I found that works OK.

Pesala, I prefer a larger default font. I wont apologize if it bothers you. Since you have little positive to contribute to what I posted, which could only be described as an appropriate feature request, I will thank you in advance for not following up on what I post. Thank you.

The developers almost never comment here, but they do read here. They comment more often in the Team Blog https://vivaldi.net/en-US/ where they obviously also read.
Further, you can submit feature requests to https://vivaldi.com/bugreport.html

By shouting, you fail to get your point across effectively and merely antagonise. Present your ideas in a way that people can understand what the feature request is.

I contributed a lot that was positive by pointing out that most of your requested features already exist, that others are widely supported, and that your fifth and sixth are unclear.
If you want the developers to implement a feature for "Searching an entire document," you will need to clarify what you mean by that. One can already search the entire page using Ctrl F, so what else do you mean?
The only new point is your sixth, which could be clarified by providing a screen-shot from Word showing how that does it.
I won't apologize for following up on what you post. If you cannot deal with having your ideas queried, then it would be better not to post them in public. If your feature requests are appropriate, I am sure that they will be supported (by others, if not by everyone), and the developers clearly want to develop a browser for everyone, not just for me.
