Long press for Google pop-up no longer works
-
Ah. That's a good information.
Does that mean it is fixed in Version 5.5? -
@sdtbluethink
Yes, I will check the next snapshot build and post here if it work.
You can install the snapshot builds on Android, there are independent of the stable install.Cheers, mib
-
Thank you very much. In the current snapshot the search already works again.
-
Will the change soon be built into the stable branch of Vivaldi?
-
@sdtbluethink
Hi, the last stable was at October 12, usually the stables are published in a ~ 6 week rotation.Cheers, mib
-
Hey @mib2berlin ,
Is there a problem with the ticket? Version 5.6 still has the behavior, unfortunately. Do you have any idea?Greetings
-
@sdtbluethink
Hi, the flag does nothing in Vivaldi 5.6 but I get the same with Chrome. Does this still work in Chrome for you? Is this may a Pixel only feature?Cheers, mib
-
I don't know if the feature is possibly only available on newer Android versions or on Pixel.
Vivaldi can do this search, but as soon as I release my finger from the display, the highlighted text disappears again.
Chrome - with text selected (correct behavior)
Vivaldi - text selected and finger is still on the display
Vivaldi - finger is released from display

@mib2berlin
Hey, me one more time.
It works with the snapshot. That looks like for a rejected or not merged change in the code. -
@sdtbluethink
Hi, at least something.
Maybe the fix landed in the snapshot after the stable was finished or it was to late/risky to include it.
I use the snapshots as daily driver since Vivaldi was published, same on desktop.
You get the latest updates fast, sometimes new bugs but always usable for me.Cheers, mib

I found a solution.
I had to disable an option in Vivaldi.Settings -> Privacy -> Tap to search
Disable option:
-
@sdtbluethink side note: I couldn't find how to disable this, so ty!
tags for future people who don't know how to turn it off: hold to search, hold word to search, hold to google

There are still problems with this functionality: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/84448/google-fast-search-doesn-t-work
@sdtbluethink said in Long press for Google pop-up no longer works:
Settings -> Privacy -> Tap to search
Disable option:Manually clicking through the settings is not a final solution to the problem.
@mib2berlin Do you know anything about a topic bug report?
-
@ourostra
Hi, you need to enable the setting only once and you have to set up Google as default search engine.
Please read the description of the "Touch to Search" setting.Don´t care about the screen shot page, no flags needed.

Settings -> Privacy -> Tap to search
Disable option:I have the same problem as in the first post from this topic: there is a problem with the network

@ourostra
Hi, you have to enable it and there is no Tap to search settings anymore, Google as default search?.
If you set this already I have no idea why it not work for you, I use the stable version only for testing, all default only sync is enabled.
I cant find any bug report about.
Please add your Vivaldi, Android version and the device.Cheers, mib

@Kunterz Could you confirm that your browsers behave the same way?
-
@ourostra Where did you find the "Touch to Search" settings? Maybe I'm blind, but I can't find it in latest Snapshot version.
EDIT: nevermind I found it ^^
