Solved Track blocker breaks sites (EasyPrivacy list)
-
After the latest Vivaldi update (5.4.2753.51 (Stable channel) (64-bit) ) all sites I tried were broken (no images loading and in some cases page format was not loaded correctly, only text). I figured out that happened because I had Track and AD blocker active. After disabling it, sites rendered correctly, but of course, I want Track and Ad blocker active.
Here is a short clip that illustrates the problem: https://1drv.ms/v/s!AqtI3rSJQnG_lnvIhTs_OHbkDF9G?e=1KkYsk
Anyone else with this problem?

I located the culprit - EasyPrivacy in trackerblocker causes the problems.
If it is deactivated all sites load normally. The cookie list does not seem to harm anything.
-
@tyrantilles Set Tracker and Blocker active. And on sites which do not display all content, you can change in address field's shield the block mode.
-
Same Problem here.
All sites are broken as long as trackers are blocked with the built in blocker shield.
-
I do not see such issue with 5.4.2753.51 Win 11.
@Meubel @tyrantilles All sites fail? No.
Any examples where it fails?
And i do not know which blocklists are activated in your config. -
tagesschau.de
...and also this forum fail to display correctly. -
-
@Meubel I think, the Cookie Warning block list causing this. Disable them. Sorry for you.

If it is deactivated all sites load normally. Then report that as a bug at https://github.com/easylist/easylist/issues
And then report issue to Vivaldi tracker -
@DoctorG I would do so immediately if I had an account on github - unfortunately I do not.
-
@Meubel The report only to Vivaldi bug tracker and do not forget to describe in steps how to reproduce. Insufficient reports can be rejected.
-
@DoctorG done!

Apparently the EasyPrivacy list for tracking blocker that happened within the last 24 hours has broken a lot of the pages I visit on the web.. Some pages the site's CSS fails to load entirely: (example, arstechnica.com:
I first went to Easylist's forum, and discovered their forum has the same issue; CSS from their forum appears to be blocked:
What's worse, these forums (https://forum.vivaldi.net/) also appear to be affected by this; in fact, the site will not even load:
In all cases, disabling EasyPrivacy list in the tracker blockers allows everything to work correctly.
These issues appear on both Android and Windows versions of Vivaldi... I'm first reporting it here, as the URL Vivaldi references is published from vivaldi's domain (https://downloads.vivaldi.com/easylist/easyprivacy-current.txt)
I worry people will drop Vivaldi if this isn't fixed, as they can't even access these forums (!!!) without knowing to disable the blocker list..
Someone look into this please??

I should mention, disabling all tracking/ad blocking allows sites to load..
Disabling EasyPrivacy in the tracker sources allows everything to load:
At the very least, the last update to EasyPrivacy should be rolled back..

I did an investigation into this. Couldn't figure out why it seemed to break all third-party requests and completely nerfing sites. There were no blocker rules in the EasyPrivacy file that seemed to be triggering. Very confusing.
But then I had a look at the end of the file Vivaldi got from its own servers:
||ranking-counter.de^$third-party ||
So, that last rule basically nukes everything - all 3rd-party requests will be blocked. No wonder then. It looks like the file has been cut off, and at the worst possible place too.
Compare to the current source file:
https://easylist.to/easylist/easyprivacy.txtFortunately it looks like someone at Vivaldi has realised this as well, and the Vivaldi file now returns a blank - I'm assuming so it won't break for more users, until they figure out the cause:
https://downloads.vivaldi.com/easylist/easyprivacy-current.txtSo just do a reload of the blocklist source (off-on), it will return "not fetched". Then just wait for a fix. Or if you're the impatient sort, add the official source yourself - but be warned its on a slow-a** pipe.

Suddenly this morning my Vivaldi browser stopped working properly. It only displays a text version of webpages. I am unable to open my Gmail accounts. In fact, I was in the middle of using Gmail when it suddenly told me I was offline. Gmail also gave me the 400 error - with something like - Bad Request.
Neeva and every other webpage has the same problem displaying only a text version of the page.
I had just updated Vivaldi to the latest one available.
I rolled back Vivaldi by uninstalling and reinstalling the last version. Still the same problem.
I cleared Vivaldi's cache and history, restarted Vivaldi. Still the same problem.
I restarted Windows. Still the same problem.
I am having the same trouble on two of my computers. I haven't been able to check the rest yet to see if they have the same problem.
What is going on? How can I fix this?
This is troublesome as Vivaldi is the main browser I use and I must submit this support request this via different browser.
Here is the neeva.com page as my browser is currently rendering it.

@ceveld Hi, see the posts in this topic. I have merged the threads.
If you want a fix, disable the EasyPrivacy tracker list in Settings > Privacy > Show Sources > Tracker blocking sources. Or just reload it and wait for a fix.
It's caused by a broken blocker list on Vivaldi's server, currently it returns nothing (which hopefully will stop more users seeing this if it updates).

Started to see this today. Using ad/ tracker blocking makes most Internet sites unusable. By looking at console output it looks like Vivaldi is blocking everything? Only way to browse now is to disable blocking completely. I'm using VPN as a rule, but disconnecting it does not make any difference.
Extract from console:
I'm wondering if this is just local problem on my computer, and if so how to get rid of it?
Using Linux Mint 20.3 Cinnamon (edge with 5.15 series kernel).
Vivaldi version 5.4.2753.51 (Stable channel) stable (64-bit). -

Hi, do you read the thread?
It seams the ad blocker list EasyPrivacy make problems.@cyrix281 said in Track blocker breaks sites (EasyPrivacy list):

@Pathduck Thank you very much for pointing me in the correct direction. I applied the 'fix' and it worked! I am much happier now :-}!
