Google to stop Android VPN apps blocking ads
-
@Catweazle The idea here is to prevent the VPN from either blocking or replacing ads in other apps on your phone. The app developer is paid by those ads, so the VPN is preventing them from being paid.
-
Sigh I actually use Blokada and this will remove much of its usefulness to me
-
@sgunhouse , I understand this, but there are no only the ad banner which may have some apps and they don't bother me too much, it's about eliminating those that jump in the middle with animations and at full sound volume, the ones that are extremely annoying, are these invasive and annoying ads that must be eliminated, yes or yes Already independent of the trackers that some have .
There are other methods to create income than annoying the users. I am not worth this argument that they use that they leave the poor devs without income, which is simply false. -
@Catweazle As if Android didn't have enough security problems already. And ads are a security risk, anyone who doesn't want a virus should block them!
-
@Jknapp1208 The comment was about ads in apps, ads in websites would be something the browser can readily block. If you want to remove ads from an app you should get the paid version. It would be reasonable for free apps to fail to work if the ads are being blocked, don't be surprised if they start doing that.

@sgunhouse, it is not like that, in my new mobile (Xiaomi) came from the same company an AV and an app to eliminate garbage, cookies, cache, etc. that accumulate over time. Both work fine, but show full volume video ads at the end. There is no right or reason for this, being the brand of mobile that I bought with my money. Nor does it let me uninstall them, to replace them with good alternatives without this abuse, what remains then is to install an adblocker for the installed apps (Blokada) and fix them. There are other methods to create income than this.

@Catweazle
Hi.
<offtopic>
You can remove nearly all with Xiaomi ADB/Fastboot Tools, I use this for my Mi Note 10 Lite.
The article is in German but I guess it is not a problem to translate or find an English article.Article

That's because you are not the real owner of the device you paid for. (And nobody cares!)
-
@stilgarwolf , even if you root the mobile, with Android or iOS you never be the owner. The only thing you can do is to use LinageOS or other Distro, but then you have the problem with official apps for work or health, which won`t work..
It's time that the big monopolies change their buisiness modell.
Good old times with the simple phones with Symbiand or own OS, no Internet, no social networks, calls and SMS and little more, but no spam, battery works one week and more, privacy 100% and no person ran over you in the street for looking at the screen instead of looking at where they are going. -

iOS, I get that. Apple only wants lets you run Apple-approved news and social media apps on the iPhone and iPad. But Android? What makes you say that?

@Eggcorn , Android is an OS full controled by Google. It's Open Source, but has the same privacy like Chromium by default, full with all kind of Google APIs and telemetries.
Because of this, there are also degoogled Android versions, but not very atended and stables.
A VPN and apps like Blokada, apart from an AV, are essential on Android, to alleviate these defects a bit (Play Protect is just something more than a placebo), you cannot remove some default apps from Google, without Android stopping to work, you can only remove the thicker privacy holes in the privacy settings. It's like trying to turn Windows into an OS that protects privacy like Linux. In Windows this is also only possible in a limited and difficult way to do without using an external app (WPS or similar). -

Try to protect your phone with iptables firewall (AFWall+).
Or try to block or remove Google Services from your Android phone. -
at least two things everyone needs to do:
- install a firewall (I use NoRoot Firewall)
- install a 3rd party app (from outside the google store) to block ads, or manually put in a VPN through your network settings

The old We'll give you this phone for free.* (But it isn't really yours, we'll track you all the time and show you ads for stuff you don't want and even force you to replace it next year.)
There are nonGoogle Android phones, or alternatives to Android as well. But then you have to pay for them.
