Copy installation / making a backup
-
hi when i was using firefox I used mozbackup to essentially make an ISO backup of my installation, this i also used to copy an identical installation between my desktop and laptop. i just installed vivaldi on my lappy and i was wondering how do i copy all of it? appdata/local folder didn't seem to do the trick, it did copy all the open tabs but none of the extensions.

Vivaldi passwords and extensions are tied to the UUID.
In short a backup works fully only if restored the the same user. It can be a restored image of the old OS, it can be another machine in a domain environment where the same UUID is retained by the same user name.
In other cases you will get only the bookmarks, the settings and few other things restored.

Hi,
IMHO in short, there's no easy way to backup/restore complete profile. I guess this should be essential feature. But I also reinstalled OS few months earlier and it was disaster to make extensions work and keep all my settings. With Firefox etc. its pretty easy. There should be option, that as OS owner I can export complete profile in way, that I can restore it to any machine/user and probably even OS I want.

Don't forget Vivaldi have said that synchronisation is being worked on… which means this kind of problem is temporary.
They also hinted that you will be able to synchronise with different backup services - so it sounds like there will be a portable user-profile file (or files) which you can import/export!

Hi,
thank you for information. So we'll be glad when this will be implemented, looking forward to it. At least offline mode. For online part for me cruicial question is if it will be end-to-end encryption model. So we'll see.
