Solved Bing wallpaper site not working.
-
@mib2berlin Thanks, but ads aren't being blocked... (yes, did check)
And this has only fairly recently become a problem. -
@hornetster
Strange, maybe deleting cookies for the page help, I never was on this page.Cheers, mib

@hornetster , no problems here, but personally I try to stay away from MS pages because of the high degree of telemetry and all kinds of trackers it contains, including keyloggers (maybe the reason why Vivaldi block it).
Personally I use sites like Pixabay or Unsplash for my wallpapers, where there are more than 1 million excellent free HD images (CC and GPL).
In any case, I have configured Vivaldi to automatically adapt the wallpaper I use for the OS desktop.
If you want an extension, the alternative can be the Tabliss extension (FOSS), which use images from Unsplash or own images, full customizable.
Or if you want an app for the desktop, try Variety, where ou can use the sources from Unsplash or any other.

@hornetster This is caused by the tracker blocklist "DDG Tracker Radar". It blocks requests to
bing.com
.You'll need to disable the ad/tracker blocker for the site, or disable the DDG blocker list (not recommended).
The same happens with the "DDG Privacy Essentials" extension. The extension allows you to report a false positive, so I recommend you do that, maybe they will fix it.
-
@Pathduck, although it is a bit of a contradiction to have to disable the trackerblocker precisely on the pages where it is most needed.
-
@Catweazle Sure - but people want to use websites, that's how it is... and this is how they can use the website.
Blocking all requests to
bing.com
seems a tad aggressive for a blocklist though. That's why I've never liked the DDG Tracker Radar. They should block requests to specific resources, not complete domains. -
@Pathduck , I have also removed the DDG blocker, I prefer Trace. When it block a site it usually have good reasons to do so, just like uBO.
The other, yes, the user is in charge, but it can be suggested to use better alternatives that also do not cause the mentioned problems. Especially since as a Linux user, he probably prefer to use other recources than those offered precisely by M$.

Thanks for all the replies, but:
Have disabled ALL blockers, and still get no pictures...
This has only been like this for a week or 2, thinking I may have to create a new "user", with default settings...Just opened a guest window, and all works...
-
@hornetster Hi there. Please make a screenshot of the page how it looks for you, including the browser UI.
Have you also disabled all extensions and restarted the browser after?
Please also press F12, then click the network tab and click the reload page button. Make a screenshot showing requests to
bing.com
being blocked. It should look similar to my screenshot above.Just opened a guest window, and all works..
Yes, because there is nothing blocking requests in a guest window.

@Pathduck said in Bing wallpaper site not working.:

Thanks for the suggestions!
Yep, culprit is DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials.
Something must have changed recently, as the extension has been installed for over 12 months, but issue only apparent in the last month or so...
Thanks Again. -
@hornetster I thought you said you had disabled all blockers - DDG P.E. is a blocker
But good, you found the problem
Something must have changed recently, as the extension has been installed for over 12 months, but issue only apparent in the last month or so...
Blocker lists are not static and get updated all the time. They probably did some change that broke this site. I recommend you actually re-enable the extension just for a bit and use it to report a false positive for the site using the extension. After that you can disable or better just remove it.
