What feature made you switch to Vivaldi?
-
-
- Tab closing and switching rules based on usage order, which are unique.
- Open links in foreground/background context menu options (also unique).
- Tabs tiling (also unique, I believe)
- Speed dials (going to be unique)
They all helped me keep my old Opera habits.

The spirit of Opera presto

I wonder if anyone ever thought of using that in V...

@guigirl I hoped so from the beginning

Opera came in at the same time I ditched Windows and switched to Linux. Opera was still very early at the time. Year 2009

@Aaron Fwiw, btw, fyi ... my post was deeply ironic.

I did not switch to it. I just added it.

Web panels mostly. Being able to assign single key shortcuts is a VERY close second. Built-in Notes was pretty much the clincher. Everything added since is lagniappe.
-
I really don't remember what made me switch. I probably read an article about Vivaldi on a tech news site and decided to try it out. Haven't looked back since!

How can you NOT love Vivaldi? It's like the web was, you know, back in the old days before the stalking ads and intrusive videos started following you everywhere. Nice, streamlined, fast, NORMAL. I love that, but I also love being able to customize..... everything! Change my themes up, bring over my 100's of bookmarks easily, and I can use my fav search engine, duckduckgo, too!!
Google is great when looking for pics. So, I just switch to Goggle while using my Vivaldi browser when the need arises. It tics me off that Goggle uses up so dang much of my Android space with crap I don't want or need, and I can't get rid of it. Freaking Google sheets, Google docs, etc. on my phone? Lol. Dude, I use MS products, gtfo. Same thing on my new tablet. More than 1/4 of the thing was full of bloat.
Vivaldi - next projects to tackle = a replacement for OneDrive/GDrive and a replacement for MS/Google Office software (i.e. MS Word, Excel, etc). I used to love OneDrive. MS has destroyed it. The dang thing constantly sucks files into....? The Netherworld? Not sure. They disappear. And forget help. They apologize, don't HELP or FIX. Google.... nah. Don't trust them. MS is getting just as bad with privacy.
You can do it!! Make more stuff and kick butt!!

Vertical tabs on chromium. Then I discovered the mods
But officially switched with Vivaldi 1.4 (even if it was pretty much the main since 1.1)
@RiveDroite Same; I was searching for better chromium alternatives to chrome and some random site suggested to try a new competitor made from several of ex-opera 12 devs which I've never used too much because it was too ahead for its times: embracing standards when quirks dominated. Now I understand the pain.
I felt a good nostalgic sensation, as in the Mozilla 1.x era, and I tried. Never went back ^^ -
When I learned that the same thought behind Opera Presto was behind this project!
-
I had heard about Vivaldi. I got fed up with Opera and decided to try it instead.
-
i think the vast array of really cool features and the INSANE customization there, something completely inexistent usually on chromium-based browsers like brave, and also the fact that the were some of the good features inherited from opera like built in ad and tracker blocker.

Just downloaded and spent yesterday setting Vivaldi up to my liking, in terms of appearance at least. So a VERY new user. I came from Edge, simply because I fancied a change - nothing wrong with Edge, I like it a lot, but still: a change is as good as a rest!
I had tried Vivaldi once previously, perhaps a year or so, and found the set up a bit too detailed so didn't persist for long, but this time I found it much easier and (so far) I'm very much liking what I find.
Calendar is good, all the basic stuff perfect, although I wish I could make the Speed Dial tiles still smaller: I set Tiny and they're not.....but it's no real problem. Next job on Monday is to sort out Mail (then I will have all I need on s single browser rather than a couple of separate things) and set up a Blog.
Happy days!
