Solved Problems loading Facebook & spellcheck.
-
It's been happening on and off that Vivaldi will not load pictures and commentary texts or titles, or not show me peoples texts with their avatars on my drop down notifications box. All that it loads are some buttons and general square areas. I reload and reload and reload but it struggles. I've tried removing Vivaldi and reinstalling, but the problem always comes back. The problem is intermittent and sometimes it would be fine for several days, except it just got worse. When I entered one of my Facebook groups in which I'm a member with both; one of my Page's IDs and also my regular account ID, I switched while still in the group from one to the other and it freaked out. Now it's stuck on not loading any group information anymore unless I switch back to my Page's ID. I still can go to my Facebook Home Page or Feed or other groups where I'm a member only with my regular account ID, and things seem to go back to normal, or rather to the occasional glitchy slowness I described before. I also use Firefox and Brave, and they do not have this problem (that's why I'm writing) I can go into the group in them, switch from Account ID to Page ID, and it all reloads normally.
... I hope you can fix this because I really like Vivaldi, but it does have some quarks in the area of reloading graphics. For now unfortunately I'm going to have to go back to Firefox, or juggle between both, because Firefox has a problem with spellchecking as I use three languages and thus three spellcheck dictionaries. Spellchecking is a problem with Vivaldi too sometimes. Vivaldi will every single time drop (crash) my draft posts on fb while I'm writing them if either I start editing by correcting with spellcheck one too many times before sending the post, or even worse if I already loaded a picture waiting to be posted, and I start editing my spellcheck corrections on something I'm writing. For example I'll click on an underlined spellchecked word, and instead of correcting it, the whole paragraph will get duplicated, at which point I know it's about to crash. Lot's of problems people! And its really unfortunate because Vivaldi has a good chance at surpassing all other browsers, just because it makes you feel like its more personalized and fun to work with. The way I've solve the "post draft crashing problem" is by first remembering to write it out on the Note's Panel (which I always forget to do!), correct it there where there never is a spellcheck problem, and then copy and paste on fb, which makes me wonder that the problem may have to do more with Windows because this "post draft crash" problem has happened also on Firefox, except not nearly as often.
I've often wondered if the Windows Google Microsoft monopoly is intentionally creating glitches in the compatibility area of all other browsers that are not Chrome and Edge.
... I've actually developed a slight PTS fear disorder about writing posts on Facebook because it is so traumatizing to loose everything you've been concentrating so hard on writing well, and suddenly it's gone before your eyes, always leaving you stunned, in disbelief, and angry. -

OKay! ... I disabled the AdBlock extension and the graphics are is back to normal. .. Then I activated Vivaldi's third max option of blocking adds and tracks, and it slumped again just a little but still it managed to open all graphics, plus it no longer has that problem of not being able to switch between my two fbook IDs in the same group. Now I can. I had no idea Add Blockers and be so insidious. Except now I still get those YouTube initial so annoying advertisements before the video starts. Do know any solutions for that???
.
Now I'm wondering if my spell check issues and glitches have to do with having more than one language spelling check program or dictionaries installed or applied at the same time, the browser's and windows or Microsoft. hmm
.
Thanks for talking to me. I know it ended up being something silly, but if I hadn't bounced it off someone, I wouldn't have known were to start looking. -
@trimonde Can't reproduce that here. Nothing even approaching it ever happens.
Can you enlighten us somewhat as to your Vvialdi version, your hardware platform and your OS? Do you use any extensions? Do you have any 3P security software?
Maybe someone can try to reproduce from your environmental conditions?
-
@trimonde I don't use Facebook, so can't help with that
But there is a thread about "spell check" crashes ( which I also cannot reproduce)
https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/74668/browser-crashes-when-right-clicking-on-a-word-with-spelling-errorSo perhaps the two problems are not related and should be kept separate?

Thanks. I uninstalled Vivaldi with Revo as deeply as I could, then reinstalled it, but It seems to be getting worse. Now my home page or main feed only partially loads. and When I click on someone's response to my posts on the pull down notification list, all I get are the top horizontal bars and the whole page below that is blank. Twitter doesn't seem to have problems of this nature, it's really bad with Facebook. I downloaded Opera browser and so far it doesn't have any of the mentioned problems.
Thanks for responding anyways -

Why did you do that?
Did you run through the troubleshooting steps first? https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/troubleshoot/troubleshooting-issues/
What kind of system are you on?
Do you have any 3rd party security software?
Do you run any extensions?
Did your uninstall/reinstall preserve any of your settings?

@ayespy Thanks for responding. That info is a little challenging for me to find, let's see:
The Vivaldi version is that latest one from the site, published April 6th 2022 I believe. My extension are AdBlock, h246ify which is like a sound enhancer, Windows version 21H2, OS build 19044.1682
I don't believe I have any extra security software, just Windows Defender and no TPM, so I wasn't able to update to Windows 11.
My computer is a Dell inspiron 17" 2-in-1 7773 Intel i7. It came with 16G RAM and a 1.22 SSD hard drive 1TB regular hard drive and a tinny NVIDIA GeForce MX150 graphics card, DirectX 12 (*problems where showing before what I'm about to continue describing) I wanted to soop it up as much as possible. A bigger graphics cards was out of the question apparently. When I looked to install an extra 16G of RAM, Dell told me on the phone that "the kind of motherboard I had would not allow for it." I was pissed because I realized I had been jipped by the internet sales outlet, who advertised differently. I took it to an internet dell repair dude in Rome, and he replaced my smaller SSD by a 512G SSD, and added instead of an extra 16G RAM, an 8G RAM card for a total of 24 and it worked fine. ... I'm wondering if its the small Graphics card that is causing me problems by creating some kind of imbalance.
Here is some more info in case you can use it:
BIOS 1.19.0
Windows 10 Home 64bit (10.0 build 19044)I uninstalled Vivaldi with Revo as deeply as I could, then reinstalled it, but It seems to be getting worse. No, sorry, I don't.

Only one spelling dictionary will work in the browser at a time.

I arrived at this thread because I have the same sort of problems: random pages on facebook will never load.
I started following the troubleshooting guide linked here, and ... to my surprise ... a second Profile that I have does not suffer the same problem (so far).
The only difference between the two Profiles (other than what they are logged into) is that the first has Ad Block extension and the second does not.
I'll likely experiment with this, but posting here in case it helps someone already.
-
Quick update: I asked Ad Block to allow all content on Facebook, and now everything loads.
Time to turn attention from reporting the problem here and over to Ad Block
