Paste command not working in Google Docs
-
Does anyone else struggle with google docs and the paste shortcut (ctrl+v)? When I copy contents from another tab and then move back to a google docs tab until I interact with some aspect of the google doc (ie type a letter or add a new line) the normal paste shortcut (ctrl+v) has no effect. The behavior is different in docs and slides, but basically the same, until I move a frame around in slides, ctrl+v has no effect. This is even when the cursor is where I want and flashing. Is this a known bug? I have tried searching for a solution and I come across related descriptions but nothing quite like I am experiencing. I have put up with it for years at this point, but it just really irritated me today.
FWIW it isn't related to any of my extensions (ie same behavior with a new private window) and Chrome behaves just like I would expect (ie ctrl+v always works as expected).
Vivaldi 3.8.2259.40 (Stable channel) (64-bit)
Revision 21d32d011fe9cba63d5249ab2137447979a7a6ce
OS Linux
JavaScript V8 9.0.257.23 -
Rechecked and still an issue for me in both versions.

I searched around for bug descriptions but couldn't find them more than the titles you gave. Neither sounds exactly like the issue I am struggling with, but they are probably related. Would a more thorough report from me be helpful? A video documenting the issue? Or is the bug known and there just hasn't been a fix.

Having the same issue (on macOS and Linux). Looks like it's a Vivaldi issue on all platforms (including Windows): https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/52143/paste-values-in-google-apps-still-not-working
On macOS, I installed the Google Docs Offline extension (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/google-docs-offline/ghbmnnjooekpmoecnnnilnnbdlolhkhi), which addresses the issue during the Vivaldi session during which it's installed. After closing and reopening the browser, though, command+V to paste no longer works (though right-clicking and pasting does).
Very odd.

When I am editing Google Docs while using Vivaldi, if I use shortcuts like paste, then instead of trying to use the Google Docs shortcut, it uses the Vivaldi edit>paste shortcut. This will not allow the copied information to be posted into the Google Doc.
What should happen is once I have information copied to my clipboard, then when I use the paste shortcut, it should use the Google Docs' Edit>Paste so that the information is actually pasted into the document.
See the image below to see the two different EDIT sections (one at the very top for Vivaldi one in the middle for Google Docs).

@davidrayscott You mean Cmd+Shift+V (Mac) and Ctrl+Shift+V (Linux/Windows)?
If yes it is this known and unfixed Vivaldi bug:
VB-64825 "Cannot Ctrl+Shift+V to Paste as Plain Text in Google Sheets" -
@doctorg that as well as simply using CMD + V to just simply paste into the Google Doc. It keeps going to the Vivaldi "EDIT" rather than the Google Doc "EDIT"

I work heavily in Google Docs. I can't even copy and paste between documents.
I can copy text, but cannot paste into Google docs. (Well sometimes, after restarting the app.)
This seems basic. Frustrating.

Hi,
There is a chronic problem pasting to Google Docs pages. The data copies to the clipboard - I can paste it into a notepad, Vivaldi notes or the URL bar. But often it won't paste into the Google Doc, not unless I first click on the URL bar, then click on the Google Docs area.
Using 5.2.2623.39 (Stable channel) stable (64-bit) on Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS.
-
@blahsum Broken Ctrl+V is a known issue on Vivaldi 5.2 & 5.3 with Google Docs. tab switching helps.

Ppafflick moved this topic from Vivaldi for Linux on

This is a chronic and frustrating problem. Sometimes the clipboard works and sometimes not. Sometimes it fails with copying basic text in Google Docs, sometimes with images when using Google Presentation. I feel though after a recent update to 5.2.2623.36 (Stable channel) stable (64-bit) it has been worse. I switch to Chrome and everything clipboard related works fine, but I love love love the way I have personalized Vivaldi and this bug breaks my heart.

@doctorg Thank you for the reply.
Tab switching might help, but it also then unfocuses the Google Docs page, and I have to manually click on the page to engage the writing area. I found if I highlight the address bar and paste the content there first, it also works.
But all that is nonsense. An online search shows the bug is a chronic issue that dates back several years.
This is a workflow encumbrance that I don't find in any other browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge). If it wasn't for Vivaldi's notes and tiling features, I'd have switched back to my old browsers.
I REALLY would love to see this issue fixed because it's a pretty big deal if 90% of your writing workflow takes place in a browser and you use Google Docs.

Unfortunately the issue has no fix yet and no timeline. I tested with internal Daily 5.3 and updated bug tracker.

Does anyone know if there are any plans to fix this issue?
I just updated to the most recent Vivaldi version (5.4.2753.33) on a fresh MacOS 12.5 and the issue still persists. -
I'm new to Vivaldi but experiencing this issue in 6.1.3035.111.
As a heavy Drive user, this is a deal breaker for me, but I'll give Vivaldi another try in a year or so and see if anything's changed.

@botisdale The only way is to switch next tab + previous tab. Had you tried that?
-
@DoctorG Hi, just to know, is this a bug that can be addressed or it will be like this until further notice?
-
@rojas457 Sadly i found no progress for a fix.
I can not say why there is no solution, i am not member of dev team.
