Solved Browser crashes on startup

"flaggings for spam"
Nothing personal. It's just machine logic with some settings to make it hard for spammers to get a toehold. As @mib2berlin says, the longer you are around and the more reputation (upvotes on your comments) you get, the more privileges and more free rein you have. After awhile, there are essentially no restrictions on your comments so long as you play nice with others and don't engage in advertising or self-promotion.

I overcame crash on start.
Just right-clicked on Vivaldi icon, and selected "New Tab". (Thanks to guy who wrote that Private window works). Vivaldi opened with all tabs plus new tab, with focus on new tab. The problematic tab was inactive, and I think it solved the issue. Just closed it with mouse middle-click.
My "history" of crashes - I had 2 windows: one with ~10 tabs, and another with two Youtube tabs, no playing.
I was browsing some group in livejournal.com in the first window, that page had a lot of links to videos, incl. Telegram videos. At some moment browser crashed. After that it could not start, just displayed two gray frames on desktop and going off.Hope this helps.

When you click on the browser, it suddenly disappears, and the window disappears, so there is no way to use it.

Its doing it to me now with the current version 32 & 64 bit.
Whats up. How do I download an old version? -

Greetings,
I just upgraded to vivaldi-stable_5.2.2623.33-1 on kubuntu 21.10.
Now vivaldi crashes immediately on startup. I had to downgrade to vivaldi-stable_5.2.2623.26-1 and now it's ok.
Is there a known bug in vivaldi-stable_5.2.2623.33-1? -
@johnzheng1113 Please check Troubleshooting issues.

@bluestarp3d
Hi, one user report to install 5.1 as standalone, sync, all tabs are now in the standalone install.
Backup you 5.2 profile, wipe 5.2 with user data, install 5.1, copy the standalone profile to the new installed 5.1.
Downgrade is not recommended because of security reasons but sometimes ....https://vivaldi.com/de/download/archive/
Please check https://help.vivaldi.com/article/full-reset-of-vivaldi/
How to do a full reset but keep data, if your sessions files are corrupted you can use it, I fear.Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin Thank you, I think I understand...?
I'm going to try installing Vivaldi 5.1 on a USB drive and overwrite the Vivaldi > User Data > Default folder with the Default folder from my "official" install.
Does this sound correct?
I never had a Vivaldi account till I made this post, so I do not have a way to sync from my old session unfortunately.
EDIT: I just somehow saw the comment above mine (quoted below) and it worked! @mib2berlin : I still thank you very much for your time!

Hi! Same problem here after updating my 5.2 installation to the latest official build (5.2.2623.33).
I solved that by just upgrading with the actual snapshot build (5.2.2636.3) from https://vivaldi.com/blog/desktop/snapshots/ -
@pafflick Ok, something is very bad here. To get Vivaldi open, i had use a new profile at start, then delete my other 2 profiles and create them again and setup sync for them.
Anytime in the working, Vivaldi crashed again, but i was in another program, i didn't see it live why. I remember i was downloading some broken 0MB files. Since then, my workprofile again was broken, i cant open vivaldi with my workprofile, so i open vivaldi with my privateprofile, delete my work profile again and created it new, again.
I'm shure this will hapen again and this is extremly bad, cause i use this browser for work and to be honest, deleting and creating profiles multiple times is really annoing.Input Problem solved, but there seems a more in dev problem. I never had crashes for years.

@mikefmmedia https://vivaldi.com/blog/desktop/lots-of-crash-fixes-vivaldi-browser-snapshot-2643-3/
try it, hopefully fixes your problems -
same problem happening to me. Kubuntu 18.04. same version vivaldi-stable_5.2.2623.33-1.

Of course, I have too many pages open in 4 windows, but Vivaldi worked OK till today. But now it crushes just few seconds after opening windows.
No OOM killer, fresh booted MX Linux.I've started to chase and close windows one by one between starting and crushing, till only one window stays opened... now it works.
I think some page is crushing all the browser. I need to find this one, or ..?

Got the same yesterday when I upgraded the stable version, but only on my "Work" profile.
I had to use Vivaldi-snapshot and I synced the profile, and it worked OK. "Funny" thing is, I updated the snapshot version todayt and again, the "work" profile crashes, too.
There must be something launching in that profile that causes the the crash on both stable (since yesterday) and in snapshot (as of today).Oh, sorry.

@anecaslu
Thanks, your finding pushed me to try New Tab option, and it worked. My post below: https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/573243 -
Had the same issue after updating to 5.2 on Windows 11, antivirus was disabled so nothing was interfering with Vivaldi on that front, I had to download the installer and install again (did not lose any settings thankfully)

I have the same issue after installing the latest 2643.3.
I have moved the sessions from the User Data default, and tried to open the latest windows. Some of the OK but the biggest with several tabs made it collapsed. -
This post is deleted! -
Ppafflick moved this topic from Vivaldi for Windows on

@iAN-CooG The snapshot has the same problem. At first it starts and at some point where my profiles are synced and i reloaded previous tabs, it crashes.
Now i'm back at stable version,
created one profile after another,
deaktivated all extensions,
then i opened my previous tabs on after another
... after every step i closed vivaldi and check if start works
Now i know, the Gitlab loginpage crashes my private profile. For a little debugoutput, i tried to start the broken profile from console, screenshot attached. The "Speicherzugriffsfehler" looks for me like gitlab blows up the browserstorage. Vivaldi should stop the script that does this but not crashing, hope this gets fixed soon.
