Solved Copy url doesn't make it to clipboard
-
I'm unable to reproduce that here, on Android 9 - I can see it working, as the copied URL appears instantly in the Microsoft Swiftkey keyboard toolbar upon clicking the "Copy" button. Did you try any troubleshooting yet?
-
Alright @pafflick. That's correct.
Thanks for verifying.Let's take this one step further...
So, we copied the url and started the Reply in this thread.
When in the text entry field, a long press + paste...
Then nothing is pasted. How does that work on your side?
Rename issue: long press + paste in text field does not paste the previously copied url

@s_paternotte Sorry, I should've perhaps elaborated a bit more. I was unable to reproduce any of your issues - meaning that all of that (copying & pasting) seems to be working fine on my side.
-
Okay, I'll leave it at this then.

@s_paternotte I found a bug report regarding a similar issue - it mentions other browsers, so it could be a Chromium thing. FWIW, try installing the latest Snapshot (which uses a newer version of Chromium), and see if it works - it was reported to be fixed there.
-
Thanks for the tip. Much appreciated.
As our browser has grown to adulthood, I've stepped away from the snapshot development editions. I'll keep an eye on this issue when the new version or chromium bump arrives. -
Hello
@ricko12
Is it possible that you are opening a link from another application? It has happened to me that when I do that, it doesn't allow me to copy the link (URL) and I have to open the browser directly.
If this is not your case, you can report it at www.vivaldi.com/bugreport.
-
@ricko12 Does it work in the latest Vivaldi 5.2 version?
-
Thanks for asking.
Hooray! It works.
I just pasted this url in this message

Using the Copy URL button in Vivaldi now seems to work again in a way in 5.2, but still not like I was used to. It doesn't place the copied link on the clipboard from my Android phone (Galaxy A52s, using the default Samsung keyboard on Android 12, One UI 4.1).
Certain apps can paste the URL fine (e.g. Twitter, WhatsApp, Vivaldi itself ofc), but other apps seem to just use the clipboard, like the Samsung Notes app, or the Mail app. This is pretty annoying if I want to share a link by mail or just make a note of it, as I need to remember that I have to do the long press on the URL -> Copy method for it to work (basically I keep getting angry at myself for forgetting that I need to do it that way).
I'm not sure what or why it changed, but it would be great if it could be reverted back to the old behaviour, e.g. just copying the URL to the clipboard. -
@mistertl Can you post links to those apps in the Play Store, so that we could test them? Did you try other browsers (like Chrome) to see if it works there?
-
@pafflick I just checked with Chrome (I have it installed, but never use it), and it seems like it doesn't work in Chrome either. Surprisingly the option actually does work as expected in the default Samsung Browser. Maybe they do some weird proprietary stuff on their phones between their own apps to make it work/not work.
I also did some additional testing using a different keyboard than the default Samsung keyboard (I tried Swiftkey) and I noticed that the URLs were actually pasted to the clipboard from that keyboard, but the long press -> paste in the Notes or Mail app still didn't work, only manually selecting the clipboard in the keyboard app and then selecting the item that I wanted to paste did. These are the apps that I mentioned: Samsung Mail and Samsung Notes
-
@mistertl I can't test these apps, unfortunately, as they seem to be blocked for other phones. But since the issue occurs with Chrome, it's either an upstream Chromium bug or some problem with these Samsung apps (or system). I'm afraid there's not much we can do about it.
