Extension for FTP support on vivaldi ?
-
I know that vivaldi does not support FTP feature anymore
so is there a good extension for ftp support on vivaldi ? -
@teots Hi - I found a couple but they're actually Apps - i.e. running separately from the browser and not even sure if they're integrated so you can click FTP links etc.

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ftp-client-with-drive/agcnjjjjiabackneidgopglfmckjdkleI use WinSCP myself, for those rare times I need to click and download from an FTP link. Advantage is of course it supports more protocols (sFTP, Webdav, SCP). And you don't need to have an extension running and using memory at all times, just to be able to click FTP links.

Thanks, it tried ftp client with drive and all ftp sites listed here > link text are
unable to connect. I wonder if there is any configuration need to be done on my OS (win10) or router ? Can you kingly check to see if those ftp sites by the given link works ? -
@teots That "FTP links" site is pretty stupid, just a bunch of IPs that most likely no longer work
Here are some that work:
ftp://ftp.sunet.se
ftp://ftp.uio.no
ftp://ftp.scene.org/
ftp://ftp.matrixgames.comNot in that "FTP App" though, it seems pretty much broken to me. As expected, it's just a standalone app that just happens to run "in browser". And it shows ads
Use a real FTP client like WinSCP.

@pathduck I appreciate that you had tested those ftp sites for me so i know nothing is wrong with my OS or router configuration. Those ftp sites you provided work on ftp client with drive app for me. Since i have no clue to any good ftp sites i'll just wait for vivaldi to bring back ftp feature or use older version of vivaldi.

@teots FTP is not coming back, in any browser... sad but I think it's true
Better to learn to use a good FTP program. Another popular one is FileZilla:
https://filezilla-project.org
Maybe easier to learn than WinSCP.Since i have no clue to any good ftp sites
use older version of vivaldiPlease don't use old versions just for this one thing, it's not good for security and not updating has serious security consequences.
-
@teots As said, FTP is deprecated (=won't come back) in almost any browser nowadays. Instead using a old (=not secure) version of the browser for everything, just use a standalone with FTP support only for that reason and the last version for everything else but would better to use a proper FTP browser/client then. @Pathduck I think OP just need the browser and not a full client. W10 explorer/IE11 still allow browsing FTP sites. But is not something I'd recommend. WinSCP with Explorer UI seems pretty fine

@hadden89 said in Extension for FTP support on vivaldi ?:
W10 explorer/IE11 still allow browsing FTP sites
Oh that's right - forgot about that
It works, but only with anonymous FTP I suspect, and if the site does not respond it risks hanging explorer.exe and it has to be restarted, losing all open explorer windows.
WinSCP with Explorer UI seems pretty fine
Yeah, probably easier to learn for a new user than the commander-interface. I'm just so used to it since using Norton Commander in the 90s and now Total Commander for 20 years, it's stuck
