Naming icons on bookmarks bat

As some icons on the bookmark bar are nondescript and repeat themselves, how can one add a brief name or abbreviation as in Opera and Cyberfox. It should be possible but I can't fathom how.
Thanks T.. -

Thanks T..If you are already showing labels, then right-click on the favicon and select "rename," and then type in the label you want.
If you are not showing labels, then in settings/bookmarks/bookmarks bar, turn on "text and icon."
Then edit as above.

Yes, Ayespy, I can click on rename, see it but cannot make it stick. Tried "ENTER" but my selected text always disappears. Can bring it back by once again clicking on rename but again, when I leave it, it won't appear beside the icon to identify it.. What am I missing?.

It sounds as though you must be using one of the old versions had the bookmark naming bug. Update to the latest snapshot here https://vivaldi.net/ and try again.

Hmmm; I am running the .24-Beta 3 version although its' the 32bit one while I run a 64bit laptop version. Again, when clicking on "rename" the desired name I've added always comes up now, but it does not simply show ordinarily, and all the time, beside the icon on the bookmark toolbar, as it does on Opera or Cyberfox. Which, of course, is the whole point of the excercise. I wonder what's going on then?

Thanks for your attempted help,Gwen-Dragon. Did what you suggested and now have 430.3, but still get the same phenomenon as in my previous post. Perhaps this is not possible as in Opera, That is, to maintain the selected name change next to the icon at all times. Is there some way to fix it? T.

I tested in the current snapshot and it works perfectly. Perhaps there is something corrupted in your profile?

Thank you all for your responses. Is there anything I am not doing that you are (once you've actually clicked on "rename" and done that) - what is your next step to ensure it will stay/show on the bookmark toolbar afterwards? Because I really like Vivaldi I keep thinking (hoping) that I am missing something as I seem to have the latest version 430.3 going. Ayway, if something occurs to you please let me know and I thank you.

Having renamed the bookmark, (and this is using the "rename" function of the right-click context menu, working right in the Bookmarks Bar UI itself), I merely press "enter" or click on something else, like another Bookmarks Bar item.
If doing the rename in the bookmarks side panel, I would open the folder that holds the Bookmarks Bar bookmarks, click on one I wanted to rename, click on the "edit" pencil at the top of the panel display (which turns the pen blue), edit the name of the bookmark, click on the "edit" pen again to stop editing, and the name change stays.
If editing in the Bookmark Manager interface that one enters from the link at the top of the Speed Dial page, I would navigate to the bookmark I wanted to rename, edit it in the little editing square at the right of the screen, and then navigate away from that bookmark. In each case, the change should remain.
And just to make sure we are talking about the same thing, we ARE talking about a Bookmarks Bar that is set to always display its labels, yes? Not one that is set to "icons only."

Ayespy; Thank you so much for spending time trying to make this work for me. In Opera when one pressed "edit" (after opening the menu on the selected bookmark bar item) did the edit, pressed "save" it appears on the Toolbar as selected. Bingo. With Firefox or Cyberfox it's even simpler - no "save". When I do likewise with V, as in your para #1, pressing "rename" and then press:"Enter", the selected item merely returns to the initial setting with the initial version, the edit change has GONE. I am using the "Icon" only setting - and it's mebbe this setting that won't allow me to do what I can do with Opera. Going to "Text & Icon" I can do it but then can't use keep the icons only, which I generally prefer to save space on the bar. The program tells me that the space beside the icon may not be be left empty.
The work around you describe in your 2nd para is annoying and doesn't work easily for me.
The 3rd. para I couldn't even find.
I will try to soldier on but find this unfortunate and wish the engineers could find what works so readily with O, F & C. and incorporate it here. Thanks again for your generosity. T.

Ayespy: Just to let you know that, after I had downloaded 435.2 yesterday my problem went away and I am now able to put icons on the toolbar very easily. Thanks again for your patience. T.
