Why to install Vivaldi under the Appdata hidden folder?

Hi guyz, I use the web browser to do a series of things, open .svg, .pdf, and some other stuff. Thing is since vivaldi is installed on this Appdata hidden folder, system cannot find the .exe as an app to do things, and therefore making Vivaldi the default program for certain file extensions is a pain in the ass. (everything switches back to ie :pinch: ) ¿Can you please make it install under a default directory on C:? Thanks :dry:

Or, even better, user selected Drive & (sub)directory

But you can do it, I can't test it now, but if I'm not wrong you need to click an "Advanced" button.

Yes that's what I meant to say; I realize my response was too brief!
Can't remember if it's an "advanced" or "options" button.

However, unsure why there are sub-directories for each older version (after doing upgrades)?

My Vivaldi is installed at "C:\Program Files\Vivaldi" (in the "Application" folder in there). It's installed in "Program Files" instead of "Program Files (x86)" because I'm using the 64-bit version.

I don't remember if I changed the path manually under options / advanced in the installer when I installed though, but it should (if it doesn't already) install to the appropriate program files folder if you're installing for all users. If you're installing just for the current user, it should default to the local appdata vivaldi folder.

It's just Chrome / Chromium convention. Same thing with the multiple sub-directories for the current and older version (used for updating etc.).

When installing for just the current user though and given the choice, I personally install to "C:\Users\user\My Program Files\Vivaldi" for example, just because.

But, in Windows explorer under organize and folder options -> view, you should always select "show hidden files and folders" and uncheck "hide extensions for known file types".

Thanks! But I was puzzled when installed no option was given to me to select a folder. maybe it's good to ask for a folder by default so pleople don't fall for this.

There's an "Advanced" button in the installer dialog that you have to click to reveal the folder option. It's hidden by default as to not bother regular users that would just accept the default install location.
