IE Tab extension weird GUI interaction
-
Hello guys,
the IE Tab extension is having some weird interaction with Vivaldi GUI: basically all the elements of the GUI disappear with the exception of the window bar.
Address bar, tab bar, panels, extension buttons, any element disappears when opening a tab with IE Tab. There is no way to force any GUI element to reappear on screen unless you close (or switch away from) the tab opened with IE Tab. Note that closing or switching the tab requires you to use keyboard shortcut or the File menù since no other GUI element is present.
This behaviour is quite new but I can't track exactly which Vivaldi update started causing this weird interaction.
EDIT: you can't even type in the address bar if if you make it reappear by switch away from the tab opened with IE Tab. Everything goes fully back to normal only if you completely close the tab opened with IE Tab.
I attached a screenshot of the browser with IE Tab open.

please ask author of extension at [email protected] why that happens.

@DoctorG
So is it more likely to be due to the extension even if on older vivaldi versions everything was working fine? -
@batab i can not check why the extension cause such issue, my idea was to ask the author first if he knows a solution. on my windows pc the internet explorer was blocked to run.
-
That's ok, I have also asked the author of the extension and we'll see if there's a solution. At the moment I have switched the use of IE Tab on Chrome where everything works fine.
On a side note, you don't need IE to run the extension. You just need to install the extension and one .exe file that the extension needs to work properly.

@batab In my past experience, IE tab always had these kind of GUI glitches with Vivaldi - especially with vertical tab bar - as the extension only take in account the Chromium UI but not the other ones. On Opera or Edge may work as more similar to Chrome - as User Interface - but having a reply from the dev could be helpful to have fixed also for us especially if the previous version worked perfectly.
-
@hadden89 Yeah, I'm waiting for an answer from the dev. I also linked him this thread.
Previous versions were working ok but I can't really backtrack if what screwed things up was a Vivaldi or IE Tab update since I didn't use it for 1-2 months. The only glitch with earlier version was the one with vertical tab bar as you reported: the vertical tab bar was handled correctly only on the left side and not on the right side.
-
@batab A test you could do is to try to find an older crx version and see if the glitch happens. But we also have to know which exact vivaldi version are you on. I could try the extension, obviously after moving the tab bar on left/top/bottom. Where's your?
I did a quick test with IETab 14.4.8.1 (April 2021) & Vivaldi 4.1.2339.3 with Tabs on Top.
It doesn't overlap the tabs or urlfield butstill do that with the panels which could be very unwanted.//EDIT: The old version work if the panel is on left. So something is wrong when things go right. But yeah, the latest [store] version is broken on Vivaldi. Same issue here.

UPDATE:
the glitch should bedue to a previously reported bug in Vivaldi. It has to do with Vivaldi handling of accessibility tools and IE Tab devs are actively working with Vivaldi to get this sorted out.

I'm with the IE Tab team and I can confirm that we filed a bug report in early July, but we haven't seen a follow-up and we have no visibility into the handling of that bug. If someone from the Vivaldi team could follow-up with us, that would be great. The bug ID is VB-81227

@ietab
Hi, please ask in the Bug Status thread, too.
More user can follow there.https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/27450/what-is-the-status-of-vb-already-reported-bug-issue/
Cheers, mib

Since I see no updates and I noticed that IETab didn't report back in the bug thread I'll do it myself.

@batab Bug is Confirmed.
