Bad function of go Back
-
Hello, i have to report one ultra annoying problem. It sits in Vivaldi for very long time and it really makes me on my nerves. This is actually one of the reason i still can not use Vivaldi as the prime browser.
I will describe the situation:
- i open the new Tab
- i upload the website "A"
- then i upload another website "B" and i sit there on Home page (let's name it "BP1")
- then i go to another page on the webiste "B" (let's name it "BP2").
- then i want to go back on the page "BP1", so i use the Back button/function
And there is the problem - Instead going on "BP1", the Vivaldi drops me on webpage "A"
Even worst situation comes when the website "A" is the blank Tab and i type to search something. When i hit the Enter to search for the phrase it works of course, BUT there is a problem if i want to go back and correct my search phrase for example - the Vivaldi drops me on the blank Tab and i have to write my search phrase again..
So the Vivaldi skips subpages on websites. I do not know if this a function (?) and it is a matter of some settings (i have not find any), but seems to more like a bug!
Can you let me know, please. And fix it if it is a bug?
Thank you! -
@xtech Hello. For your first issue with the back button - I have never seen this. It sounds like you're using the History Rewind function which would indeed go back to the first page. But it only activates by clicking the Rewind button, or right-click the back button or keyboard hotkey.
https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/navigation/fast-forward-rewind/#RewindAre you using the Rewind button?
Instead of the Back button?
A screen recording showing the issue would help.
Other than that, try the troubleshooting guide, maybe you have installed an extension or something that causes this.
https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/troubleshoot/troubleshooting-issues/For the search issue, that's AFAIK how all browsers work. For complex searches I have learned myself to do a copy of the search string before triggering it, in case I need to run it again, or with another search engine. But maybe I misunderstand your description, so again a screen recording would help.

Thank you for your reply. I use those standard keyboard "PageBack" buttons - see bellow. BUT i use also standard GUI Back and Forward buttons - the result is the same...
On FF it works perfectly - the keys respect EVERY page and DO NOT skip any page! Only on Vivaldi i have the problems with this.
The "Page Back/Foward" buttons they designed to go back/forward on webpages, not on domains.. It really seems that the Vivaldi browser has some bug there, because i really really struggle with this. This is the real and annoying problem.
And as i stated, it happens also with Vivaldi's GUI Back/Forward buttons.

@xtech I don't have those special keys on my keyboard, so I can't test.
The same also happens if you use the keyboard hotkeys?
Defaults are:
Did you try the troubleshooting guide?
Remove extensions?
Try in a clean profile? -
I tested all possibilities and i found this:
a) the problem is only a matter of the "Back" button, because when go forward the Vivaldi respect all web pages and do not skip any.
b) i tried your hint with the "ALT + <-" and it works. So yeah, at least there is some solution for this bug!
But the fact is that the standard BACK function (with GUI button and the keyboard one) does not work.
How do i create a clean profile for the test, please? Is it possible to create this profile temporarily?
In FF there is the function "Restart with forbidden add-ons" (this equals to clean profile, and it is temporarily of course, just for testing). I guess in Vivaldi there is no such feature..

@xtech said in Bad function of go Back:

See: https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/tools/user-profiles/
Yes, it's temporary and can be removed after testing.I suspect maybe a driver issue - such keyboard keys need special drivers, and maybe this interferes with the function of the back button in Vivaldi.
It works in Firefox, but try also Chromium-based browsers like Chrome, Edge or Opera.
A video might help, as well as a screenshot of the Vivaldi button and which one you press, to make things clearer.

So i made some test and research and the situation is like this:
I tested this problem with the clean Vivaldi profile (i used the "Host mode"). It works very well with the standard software GUI buttons "Back" and "Forward" on the left of the Address bar - when i use Back function, no web page is skipped.
Then i tested this with my hardware keyboard keys (see the picture above). The "Forward" key works very well, BUT with the "Back" button there is a problem - it does not work properly and the described bug occurs.I reproduce the same situation with the same web pages on the Brave. I have to say that they faced the same problem too. But now it works very well on Brave, both with the hardware keys on my keyboard (see the picture above) and with the GUI buttons as well.
So it really points and says that there is a BUG in Vivaldi. It will be really nice to fix it.

@xtech I see the same issue with my Dell Multipedia keyboard.
