Chrome based browers not working with systemd 249
-
I just wanted to write
"For vivaldi-snapshot 2355 I can confirm: Since today I've got systemd 249-3 (Manjaro ARM Testing branch -> XFCE and KDE editions) and since today vivaldi-snapshot 2355 refuses to work..."
BUT IT GOT BETTER:
I tried the command-switches @guigirl proposed in thread A quick fix to the previous snapshot – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2355.3. At the time of testing, vivaldi-snapshot didn't behave correctly. Now, some hours later, I saw once the profile chooser at startup and afterwards vivaldi-snapshot showed the gui/"chrome" (but didn't showed any web contentt). After closing vivaldi-snapshot and restarting I once more saw a white rectangle...Really weird... Further testing showed some interesting results. With the following sequence I could reproduce my findings:
- Enter "./vivaldi-snapshot --guest" at the appropriate "place" (filetree-wise) in the command line.
=> result:

- Start vivaldi-snapshot from the GUI
=> result:
- Choosing "Profil 1"
=> vialdi-snapshots starts an shows it's gui/chrome but no web content - till it is terminated, then the whole procedure.
Any similar findings?
- Enter "./vivaldi-snapshot --guest" at the appropriate "place" (filetree-wise) in the command line.

I can confirm the behaviour you described on my notebook.
But! I updated another of my computers yesterday. Also KDE Plasma and Vivaldi Snapshot version. What can I say? I have no problems (same update status as the notebook). However, the configurations of the two installations are not completely identical. Perhaps this is the reason?

Well, just updated and still doesn't work:

Endeavour is just Arch with an installer, so shouldn't be an issue. Stable continues to work as expected.

Hello,
the snapshot version (2358.15) that has been released in the meantime does not work on my notebook either (but it does work on another computer). Does anyone continue to have the same problems? If so, has anyone already filed a bug report? If not, I would do that this evening.
-
Please report such issue and do not forget to tell wich OS and systemd package.
Read Help us to reproduce the issue carefully and then report bug to Vivaldi tracker.. -
Arch Linux with systemd 249 (249-3-arch)
Had to downgrade to vivaldi-snapshot-4.1.2328.3-1-x86_64 to be able to use Vivaldi
-
You all can discuss what you like, but if nobody reports to Vivaldi bug tracker, you will never get investigation and a fix.
-
Latest systemd here on Garuda with the Plasma desktop and Vivaldi, Vivaldi-Snapshot, Chrome, and Cent browsers work without any issues.
-
I have just created a corresponding bug report (VB-81641).

This fixes it:
Change /etc/nsswitch.conf From hosts: files mymachines myhostname resolve [!UNAVAIL=return] dns to hosts:files mymachines myhostname dns resolve [!UNAVAIL=return]

Looks like this is being worked on, see https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/20111 and https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=1221442
-
On Debian 10, systemd was updated within the past couple of days and it shows it's on version 241.7, Snapshot comes up fine here.
-
Confirmed, turning off systemd-resolved works.
-
I switched back to the NetworkManager.
Now Vivaldi 4.1.2358.15 / Chrome 92.0.4515.76 runs again as desired.Linu74
-
New Stable 4.1.2369.15 fixed the systemd issue!
Big Party for Archies now. -
