Single Click on bookmarks
-
I noticed that there is a need to double click bookmarks all the time, this makes browsing slow for people who use bookmarks extensively. I guess single click should be default and double click can be a preference.
-
It's single click for anything (including anything in folders) from the Bookmarks Bar.
Both the bookmarks panel and the bookmarks manager are for moving and organizing bookmarks as their primary functions.
I'm sure it would be handy to have a bookmark button with a dropdown containing all your bookmarks, and of course everything in there would be single click. It's much touchier to try to program and organizer or manager to still be able to organize and manage, if every time you slick on a bookmark, you go there. It CAN be designed to only respond "on release," and that would be quite handy, too, because then you could drag, etc. Actually, I think that would be perfect for me. But I'm not sure everyone would be comfortable with that.

In my Vivaldi installation, a bookmark in the bookmarks panel requires a double-click to open, but a bookmark on the bookmarks bar only requires a single click. This is how it was with Olde Opera, as well. The only thing I have noticed on occasion with Vivaldi (versions 1.0.291.1, 1.0.288.3, and perhaps a version or two earlier) is that unpredictably it may require a second click on a bookmark to load a site, especially if the first click was rapidly made. In those instances, the first click merely causes a narrow gray bar to appear on both sides of the bookmark and nothing else occurs until a second click is made - but this seems to only occur about once in 20 or more bookmark bar usages.

Saw your earlier comment on this. Tried a number of ways to replicate it. I can't. I wonder how many systems it affects.

Apparently, @helsten2 also sees something like it, according to the other thread. It's rather odd, actually, as it's unlike anything I've run into before with software. It's almost like some mouse clicks are too fast for Vivaldi to fully react, and it just sits there halfway through whatever it's doing - though with software, that seems unlikely… usually, software is either-or in its response to inputs. I had it occur just once today during perhaps 50 or so bookmarks bar clicks that otherwise worked OK. However, one of them (for this site, actually) when clicked, simply caused Vivaldi to sit there with a gray bar on either side of the bookmark with nothing else happening for about two minutes, whereupon I re-clicked the bookmark and immediately the bars disappeared and the page loaded. I greatly prefer bookmarks on the bar over speed dials or open tabs, so I probably use the bar much more than the average user. And, I suppose it's possible that it has to do with my using a stand-alone install of Vivaldi... anything seems possible at this point.
The only thing I've ever seen like it was a 'race' condition in some discrete logic years ago, whereupon if the input pulse was sometimes too short, some circuitry fired before others did and the logic states weren't synch'd properly at a summation gate which then latched into the wrong state. Software, however, isn't supposed to work like that... :S

I hope you added soon, for me is essential in a browser to quickly access bookmarks.
They could add the option to place or remove the button according to the preferences of each user -
You can put all of your bookmarks in a folder on the bookmarks bar as I have, and go to any of them with a single click.

so what I have for now

A single click on the bookmark panel would be nice, since I use Palemoon I am use to it being this way. Or at least make it an option.
-
Use middle click, opens in a background tab? Not the exact solution you were looking for..but hey, it's a single click!

sorry, but that isn't acceptable. i have more than 200 bookmarks and every morning i have to open up to 30 bookmarks one by one. sorted in subfolders. with the bookmark bar i have to open the folder, open the subfolder and click on the bookmark. why so complicated?
with a single click on bookmark panel i need only 30 clicks für 30 bookmarks and the websites are more in the middle of the widescreen in cause of the panel. that's the way on my firefox and i can't switch to vivaldi before single click is possible!
please add a option for a single click in bookmark panel. it can't be so hard to program.
vivaldi is for the users? so let the user decide. -
thx - nice workaround
-
Still no single-click option on bookmark panel. please fix this after holiday.

It would also be nice if we were able to EXPORT our bookmarks instead if just being able to import them

In Vivaldi 1.0.357.5, File > Export Data > pick a folder and tweak the file name if desired > Save. And it's just that easy… At least, it is to export them as an HTML file.

I still use Opera 12.17. There a single left Mouseclick on a Panel/Bookmark opens it in a new TAB, Vivalde opens after left double mouseclick in the actual active TAB(overrides the current TAB). Any chance to fix so that a single left mouseclick on a boomark at panel opens it in a new tab?
Same is the upper right search window(google, bing an so on)), when i enter somthing there, it did not open a new TAB but destroys the content of the actual one. Opera 12.17 opens a new TAB

I have just discovered Vivaldi, and I'm impressed so far. However, there are some annoyances, and how bookmarks are handled is one of them. The bookmark bar is not practical for more than a few bookmarks. It is much easier to read and use the vertical column in the panel. But as others have said, it should only require a single click to activate.
-
… The bookmark bar is not practical for more than a few bookmarks... .
Hmm… if 52 bookmarks (and folders) simultaneously present on the bar is "a few", I might agree. But for frequently-accessed sites, that's more than enough for my own daily usage. Much has to do with how the bookmarks on the bar are utilized. As I noted, I use them exclusively for frequently-accessed sites, so I rather know what they all are... hence I can dispose of icons, use highly abbreviated textual title-cues as to what each is, and set Vivaldi's UI to 95% to pack that many on the bar. On the other hand, if I were using the bar as a means of temporarily parking constantly-changing bookmarks, then indeed there wouldn't be room for nearly that number of bookmarks - particularly if one simply used their default icons and titles.
In any case, I see merit to having both single and double-click options for selecting panel bookmarks. Some users want them to behave like single-click bar bookmarks; other users may want them to behave more like selecting something using a file explorer. Both points of view are relevant.

Just make a option so the user can decide. Should be simple to program.
Firefox, internet explorer and the new opera have also single click. It's better. -
It seems to be complicated to give us a single click. Why? How long must we wait?
I am also a programmer and i know it is easy. So please do it. For the users.
