Supporting Vivaldi by Searches
-
I sent Ecosia an email last July about the Captcha. After answering the obligatory (in this case obviously unnecessary) questions about browser and OS, I heard nothing. A week later I updated the query asking what was happening. Not heard anything since then. So I wouldn't keep my hopes up anything will happen, unless Vivaldi directly contacts them.
Funny thing is, the Captcha says "IP Blocked" but it clearly isn't - as I can just search for something like "test" directly after and it's fine.
If it's going to block any request searching for anything more complex than "nearest kebab shop" they might as well give up. Ecosia is still set as default search for me but I find myself reaching more often for the 'G' key, at least then I know results will be good ...
-
-
@Ornorm I would like to use the D more but the results are not as good unfortunately. Search quality is what made the G big and unless the others up their game it will remain so.
-
@Pathduck Are you sure that search results are good? What if Google gets revenue for listing some results before others? Would that ensure the best results?
-
@Pesala It works for finding the stuff I want to find, quickly and easily. I'm a pragmatist, I use what works the best for me.
Ed: That being said, I think Ecosia gives pretty good clean results, and would like to use it more. After all I still keep it as the default search in Vivaldi. I just tend to fall back to the G more often than not for the complex searches, especially since I know the search operators by heart and know they work which is not a given for some of the others.

I definitely use ecosia for all my image searches, but the vivaldi monetisation link is for the main ecosia search, so if I modify it to
https://www.ecosia.org/images?q=%s&t=vivaldi
would that still work to support vivaldi? The amazon link is
https://vivaldi.com/bk/amazon
but I can't use that since I'm not in the US!Their image also shows groupon and youtube, can someone provide me with the vivaldi monetisation links for those? thanks
-
@sahands I think you're taking this way too seriously! The way to support Vivaldi is not to become obsessed with monetization links. That may even do Vivaldi harm, if you make it look like click-fraud.
All else being equal, use one of the search-engines that came with Vivaldi (except Google, that won't support Vivaldi). The bookmarks that came with Vivaldi, maybe try them out and keep the ones you find useful. But don't to overboard, don't try to invent your own monetization links.
And if you really want to support Vivaldi, you can do that by telling people about Vivaldi. Making Vivaldi more popular will do far more to earn Vivaldi money, then your use of search-engines ever could!
-
I'm not a bot! can someone give me a proper answer?
-
@sahands "Someone" would be the business team, who don't read or comment here. Perhaps you could Send a message to Vivaldi
-
-
@eggcorn User @sahands misunderstood the earlier post saying that using an unknown search link in high volume to try to earn Vivaldi money might look to the search provider who is paying that money, like spam. User @sahands thought that was an accusation of being a bot.
Frankly, I don't know how Ecosia or Vivaldi business staff would take that modification - whether it would work at all, and if so, whether it would be accepted as legitimate.
So, the people to ask would be the brass at Vivaldi.

I disagree, I don't think this is anything worth bothering the brass over. No one's accursing Sahands of being a bot, but I still say the answer is to just take not monetization links so seriously.
-
It's a valid question, and one which no one here knows the answer to. No monetization links = no Vivaldi, so one ought not ignore such a question, I think.
-
@ayespy Oh, no question that monetization links are important! Like I said: All else being equal, use one of the search-engines that came with Vivaldi.
But just because something's important, doesn't mean that you should be thinking and worrying about it. For an extreme example, take breathing. That's important, we're dead if we can't breathe. But when you breathe: Do you think about just the right way to breathe, to get the most oxygen flowing through your bloodstream?
No. You just go about your business, and let breathing take care of itself. And I think we should approach monetization links much the same way. All else being equal: Use one of the search-engines that came with Vivaldi, and keep the default bookmarks that you find useful. And then don't worry about it. Just go about your business while browsing the web, and you'll be supporting Vivaldi

The Qwant search has been added back with Vivaldi 5.2 update.
