Vivaldi Will not Open After Update
-
@Starr88 Devs are now looking at it.
-
Slightly off-topic. But what really confuses me is, that I'm just not seeing that right click context menu on Vivaldi that everyone seems to be getting.
I'm seeing it on other programs, like Firefox. Open Tab, etc.
-
@Jammet It's a sign of a bad link. I get them here. Are you on Win 10 Build 1909?
-
@Ayespy
I think used to be 1909. The latest version of Windows 10 is the October 2020 Update, version “20H2,” which was released on October 20, 2020. That's what it says on my computer when I run " winver " now. -
@Jammet
Hi, version 1909 will reach the end of servicing on May 11, 2021, don´t you get any messages from Windows to update?
I had the same on an unused laptop for 2 years, it need several hours and endless restarts to get it up to date.Cheers, mib

This is the most recent build of Windows 10 available through it's update function. If this version will not get updates beyond May, alright, I might upgrade then, but right now it should be okay.
@Gwen-Dragon
There's only Windows Defender running, the default security. I have several utilities for looking at what's happening in the system, such as System Explorer, but they don't interfere - or at least not to my knowledge. -
@Johnex Thank you !
that worked out for me
Just want to add that when you right click on the Task bar's icon you should do it with SHIFT key pressed... -
@Johnex Perfect - solved the problem
-
@Johnex Thank you! This solved the problem.
In my case one more thing was needed as the command looked like this:
C:...\vivaldi_proxy.exe --profile-directory="Profile 1" --app-id=*********Removing the "_proxy" was not enough, I had to delete the "--app-id=*****" part too. I have to Vivaldi taskbar icons for two different profiles.

I have held off for a while before updating to 3.8 and today i updated and unfortunately vivaldi will not even open.
Vivaldi processes open briefly and then close.
i shall stick with 3.7 until a fix is upon us as several linux users have reported the issue here.
I use puppy linux 32bit. -
@Priest72 Works in Mint, but it seems some of the older distros are throwing a fit.
-
@Ayespy indeed and to be fair my computer is quite old so i am anticipating issues at some point.
Puppy is not what you would really term a modern distro but it works and resurrected this old laptop. -
-
@Priest72 I understand - and problems concerning reaching farther and farther back to keep supporting older distros while keeping pace with new developments will only increase, unfortunately. I haven't even fired up my 32-bit Mint box to see if 3.8 works there. Too many machines, not enough time.
-
@Zalex108 Good catch.
