Problems installing new Vivaldi
-
I have Vivaldi 1.0.334.3 (Beta) (64-bit) installed on Windows 10 with an AMD 6100 six-core processor, 3.3 GHz and 4.0 GB RAM. I have been happily using Vivaldi for quite a while now, installing each update as it came along. But the latest update, 1.0.340.7 is a problem. When I initially open Vivaldi, I get the message that the update is available. I download it and attempt to upload it, but when I click on the "close and install" button, it closes the Vivaldi window, then informs me that I have another copy of Vivaldi running and to close it, but if I close the window, I'm back to the starting point. Incidentally, for the last few versions of Vivaldi, I have the Vivaldi icon in the taskbar. When I click on it to open it, it sets up another Vivaldi icon (the "live" one) in the taskbar, too, so I have two icons of Vivaldi in the taskbar when I'm using it.  :silly:

Once in a great while the update installer seems to go haywire for no known reason. In such a case, I download the new version, close Vivaldi, and manually install the new version.

To fix that, note the vivaldi.exe file location in Help > About > Command line.
Close Vivaldi and remove the pinned icon from the Taskbar.
Navigate to the location noted in the first step and double click the vivaldi.exe file to open Vivaldi.
Right click the Taskbar Vivaldi icon and select "Pin this program to taskbar"That should set things up to show just a single icon. Sometimes things get messed up by the installer and the double-icons reappear after a new install/update and continue thereafter until you perform the above steps, which seem to fix it. Hopefully this will get fixed permanently somewhere down the line, but it's a pretty minor issue at present when compared with other things.

Tried it (checking the process list), but doesn't seem to work. Actually, two versions of Vivaldi installer were shown as running; I turned one, then both off, but still no go. The lazy part is appealing.

I'm probably doing something wrong, but so far, no change. I agree it's probably not a big deal and will continue just using my current version of Vivaldi.
I did notice an error log where the vivaldi.exe file is located. It states "[0326/212709:ERROR:client_util.cc(218)] Could not find exported function RelaunchChromeBrowserWithNewCommandLineIfNeeded
[0412/152544:ERROR:client_util.cc(239)] Could not find exported function RelaunchChromeBrowserWithNewCommandLineIfNeeded "
which keeps repeating itself, apparently every time I have tried to update Vivaldi…..
any ideas? -

Uninstall the current version, leaving your folders in situ (you'll lose no data), and install the new version.

I'm finally back to normal. When uninstalling Vivaldi didn't work, I tried to delete the vivaldi.exe file, but that didn't work either – kept getting a message that there was another Vivaldi was running and I couldn't delete the file. I tried to eliminate as much of Vivaldi as I could from my 'puter and didn't use it for a few days. I also updated Windows 10 and finally it's back to normal.
Thanks for everyone's suggestions.
