Windscribe browser extension
-
Hi, I am unable to install and use the Windscribe browser extension for Chrome.
Any help please? -
@Leers65 , see if you have Crypto Tokens and Web Store activated in the privacy settings, if not, you cannot use certain Google services.
Regarding the extension, Windscribe is a good VPN, but a VPN extension can never guarantee privacy, as it can only create the tunnel AFTER the browser has already connected to your ISP.
This is why a Desktop VPN is always necessary.
If you want free, Windscribe or Proton VPN are good options (Proton VPN free has no limit on monthly data volume, no ads, no logs) -
@Catweazle
You are a star! I had to activate Web Store and it worked a treat.
Many thanks. -
@Leers65
Please excuse my off topic question.@Catweazle
I checked protonvpn free and it is really slow, not usable for me.
May you have a payed account and can tell me what is the performance with an basic account, for example?Thanks, mib

@mib2berlin
Hi mib,
I have a paid account with Windscribe so am not sure how to compare speed of free version against protonvpn free, but Windscribe seems to receive better performance reviews of the two.Hope this helps.

@mib2berlin , I use the free version, because I use a VPN only in a occasionally maner. I can't confirm that it is specally slow (~35Mbs), enough for streaming in HD. Maybe it had other reasons and the speed also depends on the server where you conect. Free version had server in 3 countriesm but several in each. You can set it to conect by default to the fastest one.
Proton isn't the fastest VPN, that is true, but this is because it has the strongest encryptation (miltary level), which slows down a bit.
But you can try also Windscribe, they have a Desktop Version too, but the free version is limited to 10 Gb/month -
