3.6.2137.3 Snapshot crashing when trying to access any site
-
Yesterday a member posted a issue about their Vivaldi-Snapshot crashing. I tested mine and found nothing wrong. This morning however I was offered an update and when I launch it and click to go to any site it sits at a blank page for about two seconds then crashes. We are both running Garuda Linux which is Arch based. I honestly think it has something to do with manifest 3, the timing is uncanny with the latest Snapshot supposedly having mani=fest 3 in it. Any help and or suggestions on fixing this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Simply WOW thanks for the quick reply, I'll have a look.
EDIT:
OK so does that mean we need to rollback a version or two for now?
-
OK cool, much appreciated.
-
I had to roll back because the browser kept on crashing, and it lost all of my mail. Why would this have happened if I did not do a purge when I uninstalled Vivaldi and reinstalled it? And why would the developers have even released an update for Linux when it would immediately crash the browser upon launching? Does no one test ANYTHING?
-
@guigirl Thank you, but that shouldn't have been necessary as I had never deleted my configuration folder. The developers should have split Vivaldi Mail from the browser like the folks at Opera had done with their mail client. A simple browser upgrade shouldn't bork your entire mail setup!
-
I made the rollback right away after I noticed the ongoing crashes. It seems mostly fine, but M3 was broken somehow and notifications for old mails came up all the time, so I just replaced the profile with my backup after an hour or so.
Not sure if the rollback may break more than just this. -
@guigirl Yes, high principles are important. It's a pity more developers don't have them.
-
@jumpsq By 'profile', are you referring to the entire Default folder?
-
@DarylO I'm referring to
~/.config/vivaldi-snapshot
-
@jumpsq So, that WHOLE folder is the 'profile'?
-
@DarylO it's not, but it will be easiest if you do a full backup anyways to just replace the whole folder (and possibly delete
~/.cache/vivaldi-snapshot/
) -
@jumpsq You would think there might be issues if one downgrades to an earlier version and then overwrites the directory with an older backup. In any case, this version should have never been released. I couldn't click on a single browser tab or even click on 'About' in the Help menu without it immediately crashing. Ridiculous! I lost all of my labels, too! What did they spend four years working on?!!
-
@guigirl Stable doesn't have the mail client. I've waited several years for Vivaldi to release a long-promised email client. I had expected the email client to be a whole lot further along than this! I don't really care about the browser functionality -- I've moved on to Microsoft Edge -- but I couldn't even check on the app version without it crashing!

OK
Maybe have another look when Mail is released in Stable (not just as experimental)! And just avoid the Snapshot branch (even if testing something you want is enabled; as you don't seem to understand how "testing" works).

Correct.
Nah. But anyway it’s still an experiment there as well as in the Snapshot.

@DarylO When something is released as "experimental" there is a BIG RED WARNING before you enable it.
Perhaps you should read it next time! -
@DarylO Now tell me what makes you say that.
2137.3 crashes for many Linuxers, but not for all (so even if the bug did exist before they’ve rebuilt it for the Snapshot stream, it could be unnoticed).
M3 works reasonably well for me. -
