Chase.com inaccessible from Vivaldi?
-
I've noticed the past several months Chase.com is inaccessible from Vivaldi on my machine. I can access using Brave, Edge, and Chrome so it doesn't appear to be an issue with Chromium in general. While I can see the main screen at the bank's site, when I attempt to log into my account I receive the following message: "It looks like this part of our site isn't working right now."
Others experiencing this? Thanks.

@mhowie As this would be nearly impossible for others to test, unless you're lucky to find someone else using that specific bank, my first advice is to first go through the troubleshooting tips:
https://help.vivaldi.com/article/troubleshooting-issues/The most important would be to test in a clean profile to exclude any settings. Make sure to check your cookie settings too and that no cookies are listed as blocked on the login page (padlock icon > cookies).
Also check the URL
chrome://settings/cookies
and that "Allow all cookies" is selected.Other than that, not much else to do than report to the site support itself, as I doubt Vivaldi will be able to reproduce this without an account there.
-
It's the largest bank in the U.S. I'm thinking at least one other Vivaldi user has an account there.
-
@mhowie No, I haven't had a problem.
I would recommend clearing site cookies (you're not blocking any, I hope). I do recall needing to do that for the site once months ago.
Also, be sure you're not using an outdated bookmark with some subpage of chase.com. Go right from chase.com.
Anything unusual about your connection, like VPN?
Disable adblocking for the domain.

Thanks for the reply and thoughts.
I cleared site cookies, used the direct link, and disabled all adblocking for the chase.com domain and the same result continues to occur.
I don't use a VPN.
I am still able to access my account using Edge and the other aforementioned browsers. Strange that I can't access my account- all of a sudden- using Vivaldi.

@mhowie What happens if you use a Ctrl-Shift-N private window?
Incidentally, I see 4 sets of cookies for the site upon successful login:

What happens is I'm able to log into my account using a private window. Great suggestion.
Now to figure out what the Chase website doesn't like about me attempting to access my account using Vivaldi "normal". Cookies were deleted, adblockers were turned off, don't know what else to try.
With regard to the sets of cookies, I have six listed when I search for "chase" in the Privacy/Cookies area.

@mhowie
Hi, I can open the login page with the latest snapshot on Linux.
Sometimes it is not enough to disable an extension, you have to remove it.
If you use sync you can add a new profile and sync it with your old one, if this work something in your default profile is broken.
Disable sync of extensions for the first test.
You can make the new profile default if all work later.Cheers, mib

@mhowie The key thing to remember about a private window is that by default none of your extensions are active in it, so I'd think about what other extensions might be running interference, starting with ones you don't use in the other browsers.
-
@rseiler Also, a Private Window starts with a clean slate in terms of cache, cookies and other storage. But I agree, extensions are (as always) the most likely culprit here.

So thinking about extensions, I pulled up the Brave browser and was able to successfully log into my Chase account. I then compared the active extensions in it to those in Vivaldi. There was much commonality but there are a couple I used in Vivaldi which I don't in Brave (uBlock Origin and Tab Session Manager). I disabled uBlock Origin and restarted Vivaldi. Still could not access my Chase account. I then disabled Tab Session Manager and replaced with Session Buddy (which I was using with Brave). Same result. Mystery continues...

@mhowie And have you gone through the things I posted about earlier? The troubleshooting list, checking your cookie settings, including what's in the
chrome://settings/cookies
page? What about trying with no extensions at all?
-
And what about ensuring the built-in adblock is off, too. I don't know if it is in a private window. Not that I've ever seen adblock (uBO) cause a problem on the site, but still.
One further thought on cookies: while clearing cookies for the site from the padlock area should be the same as searching for chase.com in Settings/Privacy, maybe it isn't, so do both.

Good thought about the built-in adblock. I had actually disabled it when I installed uBlock Origin so that wouldn't be a contributor to the issue.

I checked the Cookies settings and the "Block third-party cookies in Incognito" is selected so that wouldn't impact as I'm not attempting to access the site in that mode.
Interestingly, in working through the troubleshooting list, I opened a "Guest Window" and was able to successfully log into my account.
So, it might be an extension as I think everything else has not been ruled out?
If so, I don't understand how the same set of active extensions within another Chromium based browser (e.g., Brave) wouldn't similarly impact my login ability? This is relatively recent problem I've experienced with Vivaldi- up until that point account login access wasn't a problem.
Thanks.

It works for other users, it works in Guest and Private mode, where extensions are not active.
Have you tried to disable all extensions, as the troubleshooting guide says?
Blocker extensions are based on lists, and they have a lot of options that might differ between your browsers. You'd need to compare the settings and lists used in the different browsers to know for sure.
You can use the logger feature in uBlock to see what requests are blocked and what lists are causing it. You can also use Devtools to see what requests are blocked.
First just disable all extensions and try again.
-
@Pathduck So I disabled all extensions and began re-adding one-by-one. Mystery appears to have been solved when I again ran into the problem after re-adding "AutoplayStopper". I then disabled and the issue disappeared.
Weird that the same extension running in Brave and Chrome would not impact login ability at the chase.com site.
Thanks again.

@mhowie I hate to tell you this, but I use that extension.
Were you testing only with that extension (and seeing Chase fail)? If not, then it may be an interaction with one of the others enabled.
If it really is that extension alone, click into it when on chase.com and reconfigure it (not that I have).
-
I'm running 3.5.2115.81 (Stable channel) (64-bit) with three extensions enabled:
- AutoplayStopper
- DarkReader
- Google Docs Offline
and my chase.com account access works and I use it quite often.

I was not using only that extension when I discovered it was causing (at least in part!) the problem.
I have since added the URL domain from the Chase login page to the exceptions areas (both autoplay and flash) within that extension's settings and am able to log in successfully.
