Just tested and the audio works fine.
Your issue might be related to proprietary audio and video on Linux. Check the Help Page. Let us know if it helps you.

Just curious - doesn't Vivaldi share a code base with Chrome? As I said, Duolingo works fine with Chrome, so I'm just wondering why Vivaldi has issues?

It's no biggie, I can use Chrome, but I'm trying to make Vivaldi my all-purpose browser.

I don't have chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra instaled.

AFAIK, Vivaldi is built on the top the Chrome code.

I'm sure it does, and for other people too. But it doesn't work at all for me hence why I'm here asking for help. I've installed the widevine thing one of those pages suggest, but it's still the same. Neither mp3 nor mp4 will decode in the browser. All the other codecs on those pages work as intended.

Do you mean the 2 tests above work? Perhaps your distro does not work with the codecs path.

@mw2k Strange that I'm on Mint 18.2 (Cinnamon - 32bit) and all works fine. Maybe you missed some codecs. In this case I would like to suggest you this link where you can find some useful tricks (the link already point to the Drivers and full multimedia support section)

I have the same problem with duolingo on a Windows 10 machine. On one computer it works without problems, on the other I don't hear anything on duolingo (while any other multimedia stuff works without problems). Interestingly enough, it used to work on this pc quite a while (with duolingo), and, without changing anything that I can remember, it stopped playing sounds there.
On my second pc duolingo still works without problems.

I do not really have an idea where the problem is...

Hi, did you check the test links from 4. post?
The OP was on Linux, it is quite different at Windows sound system.
For me it work on:

OpenSUSE Tumbleweed
KDE-Plasma-Version: 5.19.5
i7-3520M CPU @ 2.90GHz 8 GiB
HD Graphics 4000
Vivaldi 3.5.2115-71

I use a USB sound card.

microphone (registering my voice) never worked on duolingo.com, this is a problem since before Vivaldi 2.0.
Registering audio on duolingo.com works fine on Chrome and Safari, I have yet to test Firefox.

This might be the wrong thread and I was too quick at posting here, since this seems to be about audio output, not input. Apologies, I'll start a new thread of try to find the right thread (I am pretty sure there was one)
