No one knows and the developers will not say. All we know is that it IS under development and that about 4 months ago they accidentally released a version of it to a few public testers, and that version was mostly functional - but it really messed with certain aspects of the browser at that time.

Sometime after the first official "beta" release. I won't guess whether it'll be included in some B2 or wait until after 1.0 final … okay, I will guess, but it is a guess. I think they'll give us a preview before the final, but it won't be included in the final. Actual date? Call it a Christmas present, late November to mid December.

In the Russian blog, I read (from Shpankov) that the first appearance of Mail will be the first FINAL version. So apparently they are torture-testing it behind the scenes, probably trying to ensure that no one loses their mail in the first public version.

FWIW, "torture testing" is testing various samples of something at extreme conditions, usually to and past the point of failure… primarily to find out where those failure limits are. In my past line of work, we did a lot of it in the course of designing military electronics and their enclosures. Typical tests were for how the unit's design handled temperature extremes, massive vibration of different or composite frequencies, salt spray or fog, extreme humidity or immersion, dropping from heights onto hard surfaces, wind-blasted dust, electromagnetic pulse bombardment, electromagnetic interference bombardment, etc. The units usually came out (or what there was left of them) looking like they had indeed been tortured.
