Go button in the works?
-
I've not searched the forum about this, but is a go button in the address bar in the works? I know it's not something that would be used too often but it would be nice to have. (I guess I'm too accustomed to Firefox).
-
Huh, I didn't realize there wasn't one until I read your post. I'd be curious to know how many people use the go button in other applications and if anyone actually misses it - because it feels like a redundant button to me. If you're typing in an address, how is it easier to then move your hand back over to your mouse to click the button than it is to simply hit return?
-
also, pasting with the mouse has a "paste and go" option
-
A Go button is definitely one of the things I miss more on Vivaldi.
Too bad it wan't enabled by default on Opera so many opera users doesn't know nothing about his handiness
And the two messages above are a proof of that, even the OP mentions Firefox and not Opera
-
The handiness being?
I'm not saying there is none - if you like it, it is good, at least for you, period. It would be better than instead of simply saying the others don't know about it, to tell what are the good things, in your opinion.

The handiness being?
Being the use of the browser w/o touching the keyboard, especially on the actual situation with the half backed paste and go.
But even with the paste and go fully working the go button is still pretty useful in number of situations.if you like it, it is good, at least for you, period. It would be better than instead of simply saying the others don't know about it, to tell what are the good things, in your opinion.
Tat's a fact not an opinion. While it may not be true for you and few other users, the vast majority of opera users didn't even know that opera had it (had them to say better, given you can also have one close to the search box, and you can have more than one search-box).

Actually I do the opposite thing
I prefer to do most stuff with my keyboard ehheI'm a person that have something like 10 mechanical keyboards at home, and i like typing a lot.
But being a keyboard lover, is not mutually exclusive with the mouse [only] usage.
There are situation where mouse only navigation can't be replaced by keyboards commands. (think to HTPC usage, just to mention the most obvious)
The right hammer is needed to break a specific nutshell…
Integralism and elitism are always evil.
I think they'll consider adding a go button, I liked Opera cause you could do things the way you wanted

Tat's a fact not an opinion. While it may not be true for you and few other users
So it IS a opinion
-
To be clear.
#1 The usefulness of the GO button depends on the personal habits, so yes that's an opinion.
#2 The lack of knowledge of that feature by the Opera users depends mainly on the old opera default settings, that's a fact.
#1 is mainly driven by #2.

I like the "go" button because:
- Refreshing generally discards all cached items and reloads everything from the server, so pressing F5 or the Refresh Button is not an option. That's not the behavior I want.
- CTRL + L or clicking on the address bar, and then pressing ENTER is an option, but I don't want to interact with the keyboard at that moment.
Could we please have one?

Chromium and Opera-Beta do not have a Go button, nor is there a Go button extension available in the Chrome Web Store, simply because they have a pop-up list that begins with the pasted URL when a URL is pasted, which can then be selected immediately. They do not "need" a Go button because they have an equivalent functionality. And, of course, Firefox has a Go button.
Vivaldi has neither a Go button, nor a pop-up list including the pasted URL, and seems to have no ability to paste and select a URL with just the mouse. Vivaldi is just "broken" in this sense.
And, on my machine, the right-click - "Paste and go" menu selection pastes the wrong select buffer, so does not work at all.
How hard can it be to make a button on the Address Bar that emulates the return key?! Sheesh…
