"this browser or app may not be secure"
-
When I try to log into google, I get a message that says "Couldn't sign you in: This browser or app may not be secure"
I am on vivaldi version 3.5.2088.7 on Windows 10 OS Version 2004 (Build 20241.1005)
I also tried clearing my cookies but it still didn't work. -
@SuperScooper1 Hello, and welcome to the Vivaldi Community
Google sign-in works fine for me here on the same Vivaldi and Windows version.
Please post your full system information from Help > About here in a
code block
.It's difficult to know what might cause this and there are many different and conflicting solutions when searching for it.
My first recommendation is to go through the troubleshooting steps:
https://help.vivaldi.com/article/troubleshooting-issues/Then to install the latest Stable version as a standalone and try again there.

I tried all troubleshooting steps and restarted my pc, and nothing worked

@SuperScooper1 You're running several non-standard flags in the command line. Most likely you've changed flags and/or edited the shortcut.
For some reason you also have two
papi-flash-path
entries.Remove all the extra flags and try again.
-
I reset all flags, and it still does not work.
I also tried logging into google on Microsoft edge, and it worked, but still not on vivaldi. -
@SuperScooper1 Did you try installing a latest stable as standalone so you can try in a completely clean install?
TBH the Snapshot releases are by their nature error-prone, and for users not used to troubleshooting on their system the Stable release is the recommended version.
-
I installed the stable version (3.4.2066.94) and it works now.
Thanks for the help! -
I had the same issue on snapshot 3.5.2088.7. For me deleting "Preferences" from "AppData\Local\Vivaldi\User Data\Default" helped.
-
@Hunk Did not help for me.
I thought maybe because I've uBock Origin blocking remote fonts... but that's not the issue.
Will have to load Stable. -
Same here. Deleting Preferences is not helping.
Reported as VB-74163
Extra bad luck for me, as I am on clean Windows install and now I can't do much, like even install extensions, because that requires a Google log in.
-
@greybeard, @jacekn, sad. To fix this issue i had to delete default folder (did the backup beforehand), let Vivaldi recreate all the files and then do some dirty copy/paste of folders and files from backup profile to trigger the issue again. That Preferences files did it for me. Mb this can help, but looks like a regression of sort.
-
@Hunk Thanks... funny thing, Gmail dot com works fine today on the Snapshot.
SNAFU at Grumble I guess and they fixed it. -
I think we went through far too much time and trouble here.
Used Stable on my Linux Laptop for a couple of days then tried the Win box and Snapshot worked fine again!?!
Goo just messed up something that seems to have only affected Vivaldi Snapshot.Vivaldi is just too far advanced a browser to use something like the Goo. That's my opinion anyway.
