Passwords lost for not entering linux keyring
-
Jello!
I made the mistake not entering linux keyring after rebooting my laptop and starting Vivaldi and now all my passwords have been lost. Well, not really since they are still in file~/.config/vivaldi/Default/Login Data
My question is: How do I restore them visible and usable in Vivaldi? My OS is Ubuntu 18.04.

What means "not entering linux keyring"?
KDE Wallet/GNOME Keyring without PAM auto unlock or Vivaldi fail to detect

Start your Keyring and open Vivaldi withAlthough Chromium chooses which store to use automatically, the store to use can also be specified with a command line argument: --password-store=gnome (to use GNOME Keyring) --password-store=kwallet (to use KWallet) --password-store=basic (to use the plain text store) Note that Chromium will fall back to basic if a requested or autodetected store is not available. In versions 6-11, the store to use was not detected automatically, but detection could be requested with an additional argument: --password-store=detect

I got my passwords messed too when switched keyring

If you enable vivaldi cloud Sync-service, you can resync back your passwords.
btw, I'm using vivaldi with
--password-store=gnome
flag on. -
@mozlima Thanks for your response. Unfortunately, when I tried those tricks my passwords were lost again....dammit....
Lucky me, I have most of them in Firefox but am unable to import them from there for some reason so, must enter them by hand. [This space reserved for censored swearwords.]
I will never start using a cloud service, don't trust BB.
Still couldn't restore my passwords from the file 'Login Data'. Feel like a newbie...

@ertzsi
Hi, can you export your passwords as .cvs file from Firefox?
Iirc the password import is disabled n Vivaldi per default but you can enable it with a Chrome://flags
setting, search for passwords.
Also helpful to manage passwords in Vivaldi is chrome://settings
You can look there first if im or export is enabled, I forgot.Cheers, mib
EDIT: the .cve file is plain text, keep it save. -
For anybody who comes here, I wrote up what mib2berlin said in a more elaborate manor here: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/70320/howto-preserve-your-saved-passwords-when-changing-desktop-environments
