Release an official portable version…
-
one of the reasons i like a portable version is so i can delete it easily and cleanly–without leftovers. with that hacky method you suggested, does vivaldi add any additional items to the system when run--such as start menu items and "my documents" items?
It doesn't add anything. Your personal data will reside inside the directory where you placed the application, no matter if on a pendrive or on a directory placed on your HDD.

Technical Preview 3 … and still no portable version?

can we get a portable version for tech preview 4?

+1 for portable version

I kinda think if there is a portable version it should be distributed or at least compatible with portableapps.com
Their installer set up already works pretty well, they support freeware software and if you use their open source start launcher you can even update chrome/firefox/other portable apps at your convenience.
http://portableapps.com/development/portableapps.com_format
They do use sourceforge for hosting, which might irrate some people but in my experience PAF installers have always been clean.
Also PAF apps are pretty easy to remove given that they are just folders with built in folders for app data and the program.

I too sooo wish if there was portable one
-
It would be a free portable version for each update, only if Vivaldi would give portableapps.com or a similar site the right to bundle their browser/software…
-
If you think unpacking the setup just makes it portable, I have bad news for you… and what use to waste time making it portable when someone else can do that for me? Also, for free, and also advertising the browser on a pretty big site...
-
Dude, chill out, I wanted to say that people over portableapps.com make the apps portable for free because they have more content to offer, this way, and by being published there people don't have to make the portable version by themselves, wasting time and resources, mostly if they're not good with computers, because the people from that site take care of making it portable and keeping it up to date.
This way the browser gets a portable version for free (well, apart of giving them the right to bundle the browser) without having the devs to spend on that time that could be spent otherwise, and that site gets some views from the users of this browser who want the portable version, making it a win-win situation.
…Well, unless you have something personal against that site(s) or do not want to give any site for free the right to bundle your software. One simple question: would you preffer to waste some 15-60 minutes searching the forum, figuring stuff out and unarchiving stuff, or just get redirected to another site and download from there a piece of software which asks you where to "install" (have placed, unarchived, however you want to call) the portable no-install usb-friendly, version of the browser?
P.S.: I'm waiting for your answer...

still want…

So would you rather not have a portable version at all, or allow a tirth party to make a portable version on their own while you concentrate on the important aspects? You can always make the portable version yourself, but you're just allowing someone else to make one, too… nothing more, nothing less. There are already sites which have software to download from different sources than the owner (mirrors), so why not allow one more to do that? Does it hurts that much to have your browser listed in another softare directory? People might try your software just for the sake of it (and the fact that it's portable)...
As a side note: I found a older portable version of vivaldi somewhere on a site, and updated it with the latest files from the .exe archive the devs put to download. I am NOT going to use this browser unless I can have it portable!

i prefer an official portable for ease of updating and to avoid any possibility of problems

I prefer an semi-official update from PortableApps.com, than having to resort to a entirely unofficial update from ThumbApps.org.
Does it hurts them so bad allowing one tirth party to bundle Vivaldi in their own packet of software? I mean, I'd much rather use a semi-official update from PortableApps than an official update from the official website (and I'm not even kidding), due to the fact that they actually try to make sure that there is absolutely nothing left behind, and I can safely move my instalation over to any PC, use it as I will, than take it away with no leftover traces, just by moving around a folder and nothing more. And if you have a different version installed, it does not messes up your installment, so you can use one version for work, one for yourself, one for the kids/siblings/significant_other(s), etc.

a portable version was good.
i think at Truecrypt,
install the program and then you can create a portable Version that was good.Greetings from Germany

still requesting official portable version…
Me too.I'm waiting since its release and does not install until I will support portable.
You lose many users through this. -
I thought I'd already responded to this thread - but apparently not (there were several others about portable versions which I did respond to…).
Anyway, for anyone who's interested, here are my current scripts for running Vivaldi from USB (just copy Vivaldi's [Application] and [User Data] directories to the USB stick and put these scripts in the same directory):
For running with your profile - this will take some time to copy data to the host PC before running Vivaldi, then clean the PC when you've finished:
vivaldi-userdata.batmkdir "%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\User Data\" mkdir %TEMP%\Vivaldi xcopy "User Data\*.*" "%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\User Data\" /d /e /j /h /r /y Application\vivaldi.exe --disk-cache-dir=%TEMP%\Vivaldi xcopy "%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\User Data\*.*" "User Data\" /d /e /j /h /r /y rmdir /s /q %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Vivaldi rmdir /s /q %TEMP%\Vivaldi
For quickly running a default profile (and clean up afterwards):
vivaldi.batApplication\vivaldi.exe --disk-cache-dir="%TEMP%\Vivaldi" rmdir /s /q %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Vivaldi rmdir /s /q %TEMP%\Vivaldi

Please release an official portable version of Vivaldi. Such as in a .zip file that we can simply extract and use–without having to install.
NOTE: Settings for it should be self-contained.
You don't need to install vivaldi to have a portable version.
Just unpack the installer with 7zip or winrar, and place a file named stp.viv with content
..\.
in the same directory as vivaldi.exe and you are done.
This doesn't work I only get junk when I unpack it:
.rsrc\ .data .gfids .pdata .rdata .reloc .text .tls CERTIFICATE CPADinfo
So frustrating…
